Betty Butterfly can't do it all on her own, Betty and A-Z Animals rely on visitor contributions. We welcome any assistance whether it be updating an existing article or adding a new article.
Even if you just fix a spelling mistake, your time is hugely appreciated!
Adding an Article
To add a new article simply select the link below.
All article submissions are manually reviewed before they are published to avoid abuse. Please do not style articles with HTML - bold, underlined or italic text is acceptable. If you wish to add a paragraph break, please use <p>.
Please note, all the article editing tools require you have JavaScript/Active Scripting support enabled in your web browser, the login functions require cookies are supported.
Updating an Article
Certain article editing systems require you register and login.
Making adjustments to an A-Z article is very simple! When viewing an article, simply scroll to the bottom of the left column of text and you should see an 'Edit This Article' link. When you select this link an editing window will appear enabling you to edit the article text. Simply make your adjustments and select 'Update Article' to submit your changes.
In addition to the basic article content the A-Z Animals system allows you to update other article content including the related articles and information links, the animal facts and the animal location map. Adding article facts and related information/links requires you login since these functions allow you to add HTML to our website and could be abused. The animal location map and related article links can be updated by any visitor.

We need your help collecting and writing content for A-Z Animals.
Any assistance you can offer with the following tasks is hugely appreciated!
- Cat, bird and fish sub-species
Facts and images have been added for around numerous sub-species/breeds of cat, bird and fish. Assistance is needed writing articles regarding these discussing their termprement, behaviour and other interesting facts.
- Expansion of existing articles
Most of the non-dog articles currently on A-Z Animals are of a suitable length for this stage of the project, any assistance expanding these articles is massively appreciated.
- Legal documentation
Any individual or organisation who can assist us in preparing legal documenation for the site would be massively appreciated! We need to clarify the license for the articles (ultimately this will be commons) and perhaps need more appropriate legal notes on the image upload page.
