San Antonio doesn’t have a shortage of puppies in shelters looking for loving homes. The best gift to give these adorable dogs is a forever home and family of their own. If you feel ready, you can adopt a puppy in San Antonio. However, kindly remember that puppies are a huge responsibility. It’s more than just feeding and walking them twice a day. Puppies need training, patience, time, and vet trips for vaccinations. No two dogs are alike either. Just because you get along with a puppy, doesn’t mean it can thrive in your home. Keep reading to learn more about six adorable puppies in San Antonio to adopt for Christmas.
1. Puppies in San Antonio: Bud Bugatti, a 2-year-old Retriever Mix
We are starting this list off strong. Bud Bugatti is a 2-year-old Retriever mix with one blue eye and one brown eye. He is smart, kind, and goofy. Bud loves to play and run. This handsome boy is a rescue from Florida. He was brought to San Antonio after a hurricane rescue. Bud Bugatti is gentle, with a calm personality.
Like most puppies in rescues and shelters, Bud is mixed. The shelter believes he is a Retriever mix. There are 6 Retriever breeds as recognized by the American Kennel Club (AKC) and they are all very different. However, retrievers are usually fast and grow up to, or past, 50 pounds. Bud is done growing but will need space to run around. If you decide to adopt this cutie, make sure to slowly introduce new pets and people. This will help your new furry friend feel comfortable with the changes.
2. Puppies in San Antonio: Eduardo, a 1-year-old Chihuahua Mix
How can you resist little Eduardo’s face? Eduardo is a 1-year-old Chihuahua at the San Antonio Humane Society who was found alone as a stray. He is a sweetheart with a brown and white soft coat. He is a mix and is slightly larger than a regular Chihuahua, but just as cute. Eduardo is shy and adores cuddles. Right now, he is still getting used to the shelter environment, but we hope he won’t be too used to it. He is looking for a loving home and makes the best little lap dog.
Chihuahua puppies are feisty and full of energy. They are hyper, love to play, and are known as very vocal dogs. As cute as these pets are, you should never adopt a puppy just because of its sweet face. They are big responsibilities and each one has their own special needs. If you are interested in making Eduardo part of your family, contact the San Antonio Humane Society. You can also visit and meet this sweet pup in person.
3. Puppies in San Antonio: Mushu, a 1-year-old Hound/Retriever Mix
Next on our list, we have sweet and playful Mushu. She is a 1-year-old Hound/Retriever mix full of personality. Her coat is unique and made up of many shades of brown. Mushu is an intelligent puppy who loves to play with new toys. She is energetic and her favorite game is tug-of-war. Since Mushu is a young puppy, she needs someone who can keep up with her active lifestyle. Mushu has a lot of energy to burn. If you are looking for your next best friend, you don’t need to look further!
A hound is technically a type of breed, not just one breed. Every hound dog looks different. Some are tall and lean, while others are short and droopy like the Basset Hound. Regardless of what this sweet puppy is mixed with, she needs attention, toys, and a warm home. Interested in her? Contact San Antonio Humane Society to take her home just in time for the holidays.
4. Puppies in San Antonio: Gale, Peeta and Katniss, 3-month-old Jack Russell Terrier Mixes
The fourth puppy on our list is not just one furry friend, but three! Meet the Hunger Games triplets Gale, Peeta, and Katniss. They are sweet 3-month-old Jack Russel Terrier mixes with sweet faces and playful spirits. All three are up for adoption and waiting for their forever homes. You can adopt these three puppies separately or together, but remember adopting puppies is a huge responsibility. Puppies have a lot of energy and frequently need updated vaccinations.
Jack Russell Terriers are active and independent dogs with loyal personalities. They have brown and white coats with spots or stripes on their faces. These sweet dogs live 12-14 years and weigh about 15 pounds. Since the three cute puppies displayed in this post are mixes, there’s no telling if they will grow larger or smaller than 15 pounds. Despite being smaller dogs, they are active and need a lot of exercises. It’s a good idea to adopt these puppies if you have the time to play and walk them. Are you not sure if you want to adopt these three Hunger Games puppies? You can meet them in person at the San Antonio Humane Society rescue center.
5. Puppies in San Antonio: Icy, a 2-year-old Terrier Mix
Next on our list is Icy, a sweet Terrier mix. She is 2 years old and has a sweet and delicate nature. Icy has a beautiful and soft white coat with expressive eats that shoot up and also fall over her face. Icy has a warm personality, so don’t let her name fool you. She loves being around other humans and listens well. She is also compact, which is perfect for those of us who live in apartments and small spaces. Icy is looking for a forever home with a kind family. She does have heartworms, but VCA animal hospitals provide treatment.
Terrier is a group of dog breeds with sweet and hyper puppies. They are protective, lively, and fearless. Terriers also have unique coats in many colors including black, brown, white, cream, red, and brindle. They live up to 15 years and can weigh as little as 6 pounds and as much as 80. Terriers are natural hunters, but now most live their lives as adorable and cuddly lapdogs, like Icy. Are you ready to adopt Icy? 6. Puppies in San Antonio: Peyton, a 6-year-old German Shepherd
While some people might think Peyton is a little too old to be a puppy, she is a sweet girl with a sweet personality. Peyton is a 6-year-old German Shepherd, this is rare for a shelter or rescue. Most dogs living in shelters are mixed breeds. Lady Peyton is adorable with sweet sparkling eyes and a habit of sticking out her tongue. Peyton is very photogenic with a vibrant and soft coat. She was rescued in Florida when hurricane Ian hit and is a bit shy but brightens when she warms up. This sweet girl is very well-behaved and learns quickly. She already knows basic commands like “sit”.
Peyton is ready to warm your heart. She does need a slow introduction if you have other dogs. Get in contact with the San Antonio Humane Society today to learn more or meet her in person at the center. German Shepherds are beautiful and live long lives, some surpassing 14 years. They do shed a lot though, which is something to consider. Frequent grooming and brushing are needed. Has Peyton’s sweet and gentle face convinced you?
