Cost: $3,385 per night

The Maharajas’ Express holds the record for the most expensive train trips in the world. It costs $3,385 to spend a night in this traveling Presidential Suite. The Maharajas’ Express is operated by the Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC). This exclusive train ride features 23 coaches for just 88 guests. The Maharajas’ Express takes you on a trip through Maharajas’ Express.

The coaches are grouped into different categories, including a Presidential Suite, Junior Suite, Deluxe Cabins, and regular suites. Some features of the Presidential Suites include a dining room, two bedrooms with a twin bed, and baths. It also has an LCD TV and a climate control system.  

Golden Eagle Trans-Siberian Express, Russia 

Cost: $2,142 per night

The Trans-Siberian Express takes you on a luxury trip between Moscow and Vladivostok from east to west Russia. Operated by the Golden Eagle Luxury Train company, the Trans-Siberian Express costs $2,140 per night for the Imperial Suites. There are two other cabin categories, namely Gold Class and Silver Class. 

Some amenities on this luxury train include full air conditioning, audio and video entertainment, dedicated bars, and dining cars. Some suites also have a king-sized bed, dressing table, and power shower. 

Royal Scotsman 

Cost: $2,126 per night

It costs $2,126 to spend a  night on this Scottish Luxury train operated by the Orient-Express Hotels, which makes it one of the most expensive train trips in the world. This exclusive train ride is only available for 36 people, and it takes guests on a  grand tour of Great Britain, which lasts for seven nights (8 days). 

There are five state-room cars on the Royal Scotsman, and each of these cars is further divided into 14 cabins, two double cabins, and 4 single State Cabins. All rooms have lower beds, a full-length wardrobe, air conditioning, ceiling fans, a private shower, and other luxury amenities. Also, there are dedicated cars for dining and open-deck observation car. 

Rovos Rail Pride of Africa, South Africa 

Cost: $2,075 per night

The Pride of Africa train ride takes you on a voyage across the continent of Africa from Cape Town in South Africa to various locations on the continent. The train offers weekly voyages to different locations with exclusive trips for just 72 persons. 

There are three levels of accommodation on each train ride. This includes the Pullman Gold Suites, the Deluxe Suites, and the Royal Suites. The Royal Suites, which take up half a train track, are the second largest train suites in the world after the Maharajas’ Express. All the suites are fully air-conditioned with spacious twin beds or double birds, ensuite bathrooms, hot showers, and other amenities.

The $1,900 per night Venice Simplon Orient Express is a luxury train that belongs to the Orient-Express Hotels. The company runs some of the most expensive train trips in the world. The train runs across various European destinations, including Paris, Istanbul, and Venice,  on 5-night luxury voyages. 

The 188 guests on this train can book a room in one of 17 first-class carriages. The carriages are further grouped into Double Cabins and Cabin Suites. The VSOE has dedicated cars for restaurants and bars. The restaurants serve a  fixed menu of food and drinks, and you can also order à la carte menus for an extra cost. 

Eastern & Oriental Express, Asia 

Cost: $1,583 per night

The Eastern & Oriental Express is a luxury train that takes six-night voyages across various locations in Southeast Asia, including Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand & Laos. The train offers three accommodation categories: Pullman Cabins, State Cabins, and Presidential Cabins. It costs an average of $1,583 for each night on this train. 

The exquisitely furnished cabins all feature large beds, ensuite showers, large observation windows, and banquette-style windows. It also features dedicated cars for dining, an observation car, a saloon car, and a boutique all onboard. 

Danube Express 

Cost: $1,535 per night

The Danube Express is a private luxury train ride that takes you across various European locations for $1,535 per night. Also known as the “Hotell on Wheels,” accommodation on this luxury ride is tiered into Deluxe Sleeping cars and Classic Sleeping Cars. There’s also a lounge and restaurant on board the train.

Operated by the Canadian Pacific Railway (CPR), the Royal Canadian Pacific is one of the most expensive train trips in the world. It costs $1,442 for each night spent on this train’s six-day rail cruise. 

Only 30 guests can go on this exclusive train’s luxurious private staterooms. There are three executive business cars and two sleeper cars. Each stateroom on this train is fully furnished with single or double beds, an internal telephone, bathrobes, and other luxury amenities. 

Blue Train 

Cost: $1,217 per night

The Transnet Freight Rail company owns this exclusive luxury train. The company charges guests $1,217 per day/night on the Blue Train, which typically takes a  2-day luxurious trip between various locations in South Africa such as  Pretoria, Cape Town, Port Elizabeth, and Nelspruit. 

Guests have the option of choosing between Deluxe Suites or Luxury Suites. All rooms have a bath or shower en-suite and the option of twin or double beds. Other amenities include a television,  air conditioning system, and a telephone. There’s also a dining car and a bar on board the train. 

Indian Pacific 

$1,198 per night

Another of the most expensive train trips, the Indian Pacific train, is owned and operated by the Great Southern Rail of Australia. It goes on a 4-day trip from Sydney to Adelaide and Perth. The fare for each night on this train is $1,198.

Accommodation is in three categories: Platinum, Gold, and Red. The train takes 152 guests, with 64 in economy class and 88 in first class. It offers luxury amenities like double beds, twin beds, show, cupboard, in-cabin safe, mirror, and personalized cabin steward service for all meals and drinks.
