Originally, Lake Arrowhead was created to provide irrigation to the San Bernardino area and is now a private resort for those who live in the area. The construction of the dam in Lake Arrowhead began in 1895 and finished in 1915. Lake Arrowhead kept filling until 1923 and is now a popular lake in the southern California region.

The shoreline of Lake Arrowhead is 14 miles long, and the entire lake is around 784 acres large. The lake is surrounded by the Lake Arrowhead Community in San Bernardino County of Southern California.

Can You Visit Lake Arrowhead?

While for private residents only, that does not mean Lake Arrowhead cannot be visited. There are several hotels, resorts, inns, and rooms to rent to enjoy Lake Arrowhead. Activities like boating, swimming, and fishing can be enjoyed at the lake. You can also hike, bike, or run in the nearby national forest. 

Visitors are able to enjoy things like museums, restaurants, and others, ready to get away and enjoy the natural scenery.

The San Bernardino National Forest is next to Lake Arrowhead, which is filled with various wildlife. Some animals nearby include fox, deer, black bears, skunks, beavers, and coyotes. Birdwatching is also possible since there are various bird species in the area, like ducks, jays, bald eagles, and hummingbirds.

The area is filled with an abundance of wildlife, which is at its most abundant in the months of spring. In winter, the nearby wildlife is not as active, with most waiting for the cold season to end.
