Born between the summer solstice on June 21 and July 23, Cancer, or The Crab, is your zodiac sign. The name transliterates from the Greek, Karkinos, a legendary creature known in Greek mythology. The giant crab influenced the alignment of the constellations and now symbolizes those burn under the sign of Cancer.

The Crab is the fourth astrological sign of the zodiac; its constellation visible in North America in the springtime night sky, located between Leo the Lion and Gemini, the Twins. The faint constellation is hard to spot, but if you pull out a telescope, you may see the upside down Y between the nearest constellations.

And though the constellation isn’t the brightest in the sky, you are likely the person most noticeable in a crowded room. Your deep emotions and compassion, intense loyalty, and vibrant charm help you stand out when others might fade into the background.

Ruling Planets for July 8 Zodiac

A northern sign, the Cancer dwells with the ruling planet of the Moon. Neptune, Pluto, and Saturn may also influence other Decans of Cancer. For you, as a July 8 Zodiac, Pluto is your secondary pull, leading your intellectual, reasoning side and putting your emotions into balance with the Moon’s pull on your spirit.

This tug between Moon and Pluto can help explain that sense of constant struggle between reasoning and emotional leading, but this is normal and even healthy and is part of what makes you so unique and powerfully creative. It does, however, impact your need for security and stability in relationships, which is part of why you are so intensely loyal once someone earns your trust.

July 7 Zodiac Personality Traits

Five traits are most likely to come up when someone asks a friend to describe you: creative, compassionate, attractive, emotional, and charming. Those who aren’t as friendly with you (possibly jealous!) are more prone to calling you crabby, overly sensitive, ostentatious, or vain. These traits can sum up the outside perspective of you, depending on your emotional health.

Creative

Your life would not be fulfilling in the slightest if you weren’t able to express yourself through creative means. This could be in music, design, writing, architecture, invention, or any number of other creative mediums. The key is that you must allow yourself to enjoy the creative side of yourself, or you’ll live in constant misery, unfulfilled.

Attractive and Charming

Your good looks and enticing charms draw others to you wherever you go, if you’re in a healthy place emotionally. If you’re unhealthy, the charm and attractiveness may still draw people in, but the relationships you’ll form won’t be as genuine or healthy. Be cautious of partners only interested in your life when you’re struggling to find your footing.

Decisive

Part of your charm is the ability you have to make quick, reasonable decisions that lead the group into good places. You’re often automatically bumped into leadership roles, without trying to get them, and everyone looks to you when there are tough decisions to make. Celebrate this, embrace, and make those decisions to help others follow along in the positive path of your creative guidance.

Bored Easily

That creative and adventurous spirit has a potential downside – but it’s a completely natural component of who you are: boredom comes easily. Because you explore new places, new things, and new methods all the time, and because you’re usually working on multiple small projects all at the same time, boredom hits hard when you get stuck in a standard routine.

Conflict Comes Easily

Your emotional soul thrives in compassionate spaces, but that doesn’t always mean that others appreciate your passions. Because your creative soul is often misunderstood by those less emotion-based, you may dredge up conflict unintentionally on the regular with family and friends who aren’t as much like you. To avoid this problem, make sure you engage in compassionate, active listening – avoid trying to defend yourself and instead try to hear the other person’s perspective. Recognize their point of view is just as valid to them as yours is to you – and use this to communicate better with them.

  • Writer
  • Digital artist
  • Performance artist
  • Holistic healer
  • Designer
  • Visual artist
  • Archeologist

  • Lawyer

  • Politician
  • Hard seller, such as in car sales

July 7 Zodiac Compatibility

July 8 Zodiac born Cancer natives are compatible with about half of the other zodiac signs, thanks to the emotional intelligence, charm, and creative depth of your personality. There are some signs, however, that could cause trouble in romantic matches.

Great Matches

Taurus

Two signs apart on the zodiac, Taurus and Cancerians are quite often the perfect match. The relationship winds up being friendly, easy-going, and generally smooth, whether we’re talking friendship or romantic partnership. Your compatibility resonates particularly in the way you hear each other and harmonize in your shared experiences of choice, such as gastronomy.

Virgo

Two signs apart under the zodiac, Cancerians and Virgos will find harmony ringing as they proceed through life together. Your common sensitivity and service-orientation in relationships blends well with you both being full of big dreams and hopes for yourselves and the world.

Scorpio

Part of the water trigon with Cancerians, Scorpios are likely to make an excellent match with you. Their low-key approach to life will blend lovingly in their own emotional strength and empathy, their big dreams encouraging yours, and the ability to communicate needs as you are able through creative expressions.

Capricorn

If a balanced relationship is more in-tune to your needs, Capricorns are your go-to partners, whether in friendship or romance. Their pragmatic viewpoints may help you find more stability in your struggle between emotions and reasoning, and likely make things easier to communicate about any conflicts that may arise between you.

Pisces

The deeply spiritual Pisces will blend perfectly with your Cancerian charm. The ability you both bear in knowing and truly hearing each other will lead to healthy, long-lasting relationships. Let empathy guide your way and work together to create the passionate, happy life you both dream of.

Fellow Cancerians

Of course, two Cancerians often pair well. You both fully understand what it means to bear the deep emotions, continual conflict inside between emotion and reason, and the need to find both stability and care in relationships of all types.

Poor Matches

Gemini

Being only one sign apart, Gemini and Cancerians often have friction that won’t help you thrive in a romantic partnership together. The cerebral-based communication and needs of the Gemini will conflict with the emotion-based needs and communication you have as a Cancerian, making a peaceful life together challenging.

Libra

Three signs away from Cancerians, the challenges may arise between Libra and Cancerians on the regular. While you both need companionable relationships and you’re both charming and attractive, the Libra often may have a greater need to be the center of attention, which can lead to jealousy or feeling invisible for the Cancerian.

Aries

Perhaps less challenging than Gemini, the Aries in partnership with Cancerian also isn’t likely to be the best match. While both Cancerians and Aries are big-picture thinkers, Aries often also struggle with the stick-to-it-ness that so often Cancerians struggle with. This can lead to big problems in a committed relationship.

Sagittarius

While deep loyalty is something incredibly to both Cancerians and Sagittarius, living in their head can be a big cause of conflict for Sagittarius matched with Cancerians. Your emotions are scattered everywhere while theirs are tucked away – and this will often leave one or both of you feeling unknown and unseen.

Aquarius

Though they may be deeply emotional on the inside, Aquarius are often considered to be aloof and cool when it comes to relationships. PDA isn’t likely to be a thing and big public displays of emotion – or private, for that matter – aren’t often a thing. This may cause major issues for Cancerians, as emotions are where you live much of the time.

Could Go Either Way

Leo

One sign away, Leos also tend not to match well with Cancerians. Frequent conflict and friction may arise, with Leos looking for attention and pulling spotlight away from your creative efforts. On the other hand, the perpetual optimism of the Leo may help to balance out the “moodiness” of Cancerians that often drags you down into the pits of despair when life is rough.

Relationship Strengths and Weaknesses

Your life is filled with ups and downs, like the waning and waxing of the moon. That means your relationship weaknesses are usually your strengths turned in on themselves when you’re not functioning in a healthy relationship.

  • Emotional and expressive – One of your greatest strengths is your emotional intelligence and ability to communicate this. However, when you’re not operating out of a healthy place or the relationship you’re in is unhealthy, this strength can be turned inside out become your greatest weakness: manipulation of others.
  • Deep connectiveness and loyalty – Once your trust has been earned, that person is in your heart forever. Loyalty is one of your most powerful relationship qualities – but it can become unhealthy if you let it. Avoid becoming possessive or overly protective or you could become co-dependent and highly unhealthy.
  • Intuitive and caring – Love rules your heart and that creative soul shines through unique expressions of care and intuitive love for others. This is probably your greatest strength when it comes to relationships – you know what the other person needs without being told. There’s a danger here, though, in starting to think you know best. Instead, listen with your heart and hear the other person express their needs instead of expecting you already know them.

Why Silver Matters to Cancerians

Achieving personal fulfillment, with the courage to stick through it all has been linked to the color silver. Because of your unique traits as a Cancerian with both great loyalty and easy boredom, this power to meet your goals of self-improvement and fulfillment is important. Representing also purity and spiritual power, the color leads into a state of bliss for those who rely on its color for inspiration, with a bit of mystery lingering around the edges.

Tying into the moon and water, silver indicated emotional resilience, sensitivity, and a creative spirit, as well, meaning you’ve already got silver “all over” you in a supernatural way. It cannot give you power inherently, but it can encourage you, lift your mood, and inspire your heart to pursue your dreams and fulfill your deepest needs for connection and creative expression. Wear the color often, whether in jewelry or clothing, or dress your creative workspace in the color to enhance its influence over your spirit.

Many stones may be embraced by Cancerians for their gemstones, but the most common three are the ruby, the traditional stone of the Cancer sign, pearls, and moonstones.

Rubies

The traditional birthstone for Cancerians, rubies offer a warm, red glow that heightens and exemplifies the emotions of Cancerians. Considered to be ruled by the Sun, the cosmic connection between the two is thought to help bring balance into the life of Cancerians. Balancing the heart and drawing confidence are also attributed to the stone and is thought to help Cancerians when they struggle with co-dependency.

Moonstones

As the Moon rules Cancerians, moonstones make sense for those under the sign to embrace as their stone. Moonstones are often thought to deepen intuition and guiding plans, two qualities found in Cancerians when they are healthy emotionally.

Pearls

Connecting the water element to Cancerians, pearls offer luminous beauty as a sign of purity and sincerity. The Cancerian heart aligns with these notions and may easily find the pearl the most intimately connected stone.
