The Yorkshire Terrier

Like a brilliant ray of sunshine on a cloudy day, Yorkshire terriers are adorable pups that can always make you smile. Yorkies are fiercely loyal to their humans but are also spunky, curious, and always up for a fun adventure. Standard Yorkies are typically 7 to 8 inches tall and weigh up to seven pounds. Their small size and big dog personalities make them absolutely adorable dogs to be around. So, let’s take a closer look at the 15 cutest Yorkies in the world! 

1. Giant Yorkie

Yorkies are typically just 7 to 8 inches tall and weigh only three to seven pounds — but every once in a while, a larger puppy is born, which many fondly refer to as the “giant Yorkie”. Although giant yorkies are not a separate breed, many people like to call them “giant Yorkies” because they look so much bigger than your average Yorkie. A giant Yorkie is not a big dog by any stretch of the imagination, but they are much bigger than your average-sized Yorkie. Giant Yorkies are often over 9 inches tall, and some can even weigh up to 15 pounds — that’s at least double the size of other Yorkies!

In spite of their larger size, giant Yorkies are just like any other standard Yorkie. They are still purebred Yorkies — they just grew a little bigger than expected, which is what makes them one of the cutest Yorkies in the world!

2. Teacup Yorkie

On the other side of the spectrum is the teacup Yorkie. If you thought a standard-sized Yorkie was small, just wait until you see these tiny pups — teacup yorkies usually weigh just two to four pounds! Measuring 5 to 7 inches tall, these little dogs are just about the right size to fit in a teacup. Like giant Yorkies, teacup Yorkies are still purebred Yorkshire terriers — they’re just much smaller. Teacup Yorkies are the result of breeding small Yorkies together, so these dogs are pretty rare. In addition, while teacup Yorkies are no doubt some of the cutest Yorkies in the world, their small size also comes with many health issues, and they can get hurt very easily.

3. Parti Yorkie

One of the cutest Yorkies you’ll ever see is the parti Yorkie. Parti Yorkies are still purebred Yorkshire terriers — they just have different colors. These beautiful dogs most commonly have a white base coat with brown or black patches. Parti Yorkies often come in a combination of different colors, although the most common you’ll see is white, black, and tan. Their unique coloring comes from a special recessive gene, so to get a parti Yorkie both parents need to have the parti color gene.

Parti Yorkies have been around for a very long time, although it has only been recently that they have become so popular. In fact, Ernest Hemingway’s grandfather had a white Yorkie! Sadly, however, for much of the breed’s history white parti Yorkies were actually looked down upon. People thought that if a Yorkie had white hair, it meant that they were not purebred, so breeders would secretly get rid of them or even kill them. However, in the 1980s one Yorkshire terrier breeder refused to get rid of their new parti Yorkie pup, and this led to a new trend. Their rarity suddenly made parti Yorkies coveted dogs instead of cast-offs!

4. Biewer Yorkshire Terrier

The name of this next cute Yorkie is actually pronounced “beaver” — yep, just like the cute little animal that builds dams. Biewer Yorkies get their name from the original German breeders, Werner and Gertrud Biewer. While Yorkies traditionally only have two colors (except for the parti yorkie), the Biewer’s were surprised to find a little pup in one of their litters that grew into a beautiful blue, gold, and white yorkie with a very rare recessive piebald gene. Through selective breeding, more and more of these unique Yorkies began to pop up — so much so that today the Biewer Yorkshire terrier is actually considered its own separate breed!

So, what’s the difference between a parti Yorkie and a Biewer Yorkshire terrier? Well, the Biewer Yorkshire terrier has a tri-colored head with black, blue, gold, or white coloring (without any brown). The dog’s legs, belly, chest, and tail are all white. Parti Yorkies, on the other hand, have all kinds of different colors and color combinations. Biewer Yorkshire terriers’ tails are also not docked like standard Yorkies are. In addition, Biewer Yorkshire terriers are a bit more active and affectionate than Yorkies are.

5. Chocolate Yorkie

What’s not to love when you combine dogs and chocolate? The chocolate Yorkie is a rare color of the Yorkie breed. Its rich chocolate brown fur coat is the result of double recessive genes with the mutation of the TYRP1 gene. Their unique genetics make chocolate Yorkies some of the rarest Yorkies out there! However, because of this, some breeders may breed a Yorkie with another brown dog to get a similar result — which is why it’s important to do your research first so that you don’t get scammed!

Although many chocolate Yorkies are a deep, rich brown color, others are lighter tan or bronze. Some dogs may also have white patches on their paws, legs, or chests. However, all chocolate Yorkies typically have brown paw pads, noses, and lips. 

6. Morkie (Yorkshire Terrier and Maltese Mix)

Not every cute Yorkie has to be a purebred pooch of course — there are so many adorable Yorkie mixes out there, it’s hard to choose which are the cutest Yorkies in the world! However, the Morkie (a Yorkshire terrier and Maltese mix), is certainly a top contender. These pint-sized pups are bursting with personality. They are sure to make you smile with their adorable teddy bear faces and playful attitudes. 

Morkies are always ready for an adventure and will never leave your side. They may be small, but they still have the tough-guy terrier attitude of a Yorkie mixed with the stubborn streak of a Maltese. However, if you’re thinking about adopting a Yorkipom, make sure you have a good pair of walking shoes, because these little dynamos have tons of energy. They require lots of exercise and playtime to stay happy and healthy.

In addition, they are prone to attitude issues from both parents, so regular training is non-negotiable. However, the curious nature and social spirit of Yorkipoms make them the life of any party and will entertain you for hours on end.

8. Corkie (Yorkshire Terrier and Cocker Spaniel Mix)

The corkie is an adorable furry canine that is confident, friendly, and playful. These cute Yorkies are the result of crossbreeding of a Yorkshire terrier and a cocker spaniel. In general, corkies tend to be small to medium-sized dogs that weigh around 12 to 25 pounds and stand about 9 to 13 inches tall.
