Summers in Texas provide the best opportunities for swimming. If you live near Fort Worth, there are plenty of swimming spots to fit all your needs. For instance, you can visit public pools, swimming holes, lakes, rivers, and even water parks!

Fort Worth is a North Central Texas city with almost a million residents. Despite being such a populated city, it began as Camp Worth on the bank of the Trinity River in 1849. Even with such a humble beginning, the city has grown quickly and has more than enough swimming spots. Follow along to learn more about the different swimming spots in the city.

Swimming Holes

Swimming holes are natural places large enough for a person to swim comfortably. These can be holes or “pools” in lakes, rivers, and ponds. Sometimes natural springs are called swimming holes. In Fort Worth, there are many swimmable lakes and rivers. A popular swimming hole in Fort Worth is Twin Points Park. There, you can swim in Eagle Mountain Lake, which has soft and sandy beaches. It’s about 15 miles away from downtown Fort Worth. Large trees provide shade and a boat ramp is available for water activities.

Lakes

Although there are alligators in Texas, most don’t live near Fort Worth, since the city is far from the wetlands where gators reside. Most lakes in Fort Worth are also safe to swim in, meaning you don’t have to worry about water pollution. Some of the best lakes to beat the heat near Fort Worth include Marine Creek Lake, Lake Como, Lake Worth Beach, French Lake, and Benbrook Lake.

Marine Creek Lake is located in Fort Worth, specifically northwest Tarrant County. At the lake, there are two boat ramps. Not only can you kayak and sail in the lake, but you can also walk the 6 miles of paved trail. Eagle Mountain Lake is a lake and a swimming hole. It’s deep enough for swimming and paddle boarding. This stunning lake covers about 8,694 acres of land.

Rivers

There aren’t many rivers that run through Fort Worth. However, you can swim in the Trinity River. This large river is 710 miles long and is located in North Texas near the Red River. This river has four branches, the West Fork, the Clear Fork, the Elm Fork, and the East Fork. The Trinity River runs through downtown Fort Worth. Interestingly, it’s safe to swim in the Trinity River in Fort Worth, but not Dallas, just a few miles south of the city.

Although Plano is not in Fort Worth, it’s only about 50 miles away. The Texas Pool is shaped like the outline of the state. It’s open in the summer and costs a small fee to enter. The 168,000-gallon saltwater pool opened in 1961. It’s so important, the pool is listed in the National Register of Historic Places. The Texas Pool also has many amenities including diving boards, slides, and a volleyball net. The pool also allows mermaid fins. You can also join a mermaid fin class or host a mermaid birthday party at the pool.
