Situated on 750 wooded acres, Furman University’s college campus features thirteen miles of paved walking trails throughout the campus.

Furman’s iconic bell tower sits in the middle of the university’s 40-acre lake, which provides a stunning and serene backdrop to campus happenings. Today’s bell tower was erected in 1958 and is a recreation of the original tower built in 1854. The campus provides a gorgeous view of nearby Paris Mountain.

Flora and Fauna at Furman University

One of the most beautiful features of the Furman University campus is the Place of Peace and the Asia Garden. The Place of Peace was built in 1984, donated to the University in 2004, and transported to campus in 2008. It is the first Japanese temple ever to be dismantled and reconstructed in America.

The Asia Garden, which adjoins the Place of Peace, invites serenity and meditation with a landscape that includes Japanese maple varieties, lizard tail, bamboo, and iris. A koi pond is at the center of the garden.

This Japanese Temple, Hei-Sei-Ji, was once standing in Nagoya, Japan. It is one of the most beautiful structures today on the Furman University campus.
