Sharks have long been portrayed as ferocious aquatic creatures, and most people fear them to death. However, the truth is sharks aren’t as aggressive as people think – with some exceptions, depending on the species. Most will not even approach people, as they aren’t on their diet. They’d rather feast on fish and marine animals than humans.

People may be swimming alongside sharks and not even be aware of it! After all, we are the ones intruding on their habitats, aren’t we? In fact, there have been numerous instances in which people learned after getting out of the water that they’d been swimming alongside sharks, and most of these encounters were without any dramatic incidents.

You’re probably wondering why we’re sharing this with you, right? Well, we’ve come across a fantastic camera capture of a shark swimming near people and wanted to discuss it with you! So here’s how the story goes.

On a sunny day at the Hau Bush, or, as you might’ve heard it, Oneula Beach Park in Ewa Beach, Hawaii, a father wanted to take a drone video of his daughter and some friends surfing. We see many people in the water waiting for a well-built wave to prove their surfing skills. However, they’re not the only ones swimming in the water!

As the image closes in, we notice a large shark swimming between people! A surfer passes just above the shark on a wave, but the predator doesn’t even seem to notice the intruder! It just kept swimming in the opposite direction and didn’t even look back towards the people near the shore who might’ve become prey to it! This proves again that sharks aren’t as aggressive as we think, and most won’t attack humans if they don’t feel threatened.

What Shark Species Are Aggressive?

Some shark species are aggressive, though, and these include the following:

  1. Great White Sharks
  2. Tiger Sharks
  3. Bull Sharks
  4. Blacktip Sharks
  5. Sand Sharks
  6. Great Hammerhead Sharks
  7. Shortfin Mako Sharks

However, even if these shark species are considered aggressive, they do not attack people on a human basis. For example, great white sharks have been involved in over 300 attacks since scientists started recording them, spanning several hundreds of years. Still, since they may attack humans even if they don’t feel threatened by them, you should undoubtedly learn what to do in case you spot one in the water.

What Sharks Are Not Aggressive?

Although some sharks are pretty aggressive, others are shy and have nothing against humans. The whale shark is one of them. Even though it’s the largest shark species, it feeds on zooplankton and has nothing against humans. On the contrary, whale sharks have been seen interacting and playing with humans! How awesome is that?

Here are other sharks considered harmless to humans:

  1. Nurse Sharks
  2. Basking Sharks
  3. Angel Sharks
  4. Leopard Sharks
  5. Bamboo Sharks
  6. Goblin Sharks
  7. Sand Tiger Sharks
  8. Greenland Sharks
  9. Thresher Sharks
