A YouTube Short with more than six million views is leaving viewers and beachgoers in awe. Imagine you’re enjoying a vacation by relaxing on the sandy shores of a beautiful beach. Perhaps you have a tasty drink in your hand or you’re preparing to take a dip in the refreshing water.

Suddenly, what appears to be a blue marlin shoots itself out of the water and onto the shore! That’s exactly what happened in the video that’s going viral! Tourists and locals alike surround the animal as it thrashes from side to side as the tide rolls in.

No one was wounded, according to Ocean Safety, but it’s unclear why the fish chose to swim up onto the coast, according to KTLA sister station KHON. Emilio Mendoza was one of the beachgoers and had this to say, “Yeah, it’s nothing like I’ve ever seen before. I know marlins are deep in the ocean, so seeing one on the coast, it’s, it was pretty like yeah, it was, it was just eye-opening to see that.”

Some people run, and others take out their phones to record footage like this. Thankfully, someone musters up the courage to help the poor creature get back into the water. One comment under the video points out a humbling fact.

They say, “Every living creature needs help at some time in their life.” Isn’t that the truth? Now, these creatures aren’t the easiest to help. They’re far from small and lightweight.

The blue marlin is one of the swiftest, strongest predators in the open sea and one of the most prized game fish throughout its habitat. This species of fish is one of the largest known bony fish, growing to masses of at least 1,800 pounds and lengths of over 16 feet.

Blue Marlin Facts

Their size allows them to consume a range of prey throughout the course of their lifetimes. When they are young, they feed on small zooplankton, and as they get older, their prey gets bigger. They devour squid and quite large, bony fish as adults.

Similar to other fish, several different predators devour blue marlin. When they first hatch, other fish that specialize in ingesting plankton consume the eggs. As they become bigger, their predators get bigger as well, but adult blue marlins are only devoured by enormous open ocean shark species such as white sharks and shortfin mako sharks.

The backs of the Shortfin Mako Shark range from a metallic indigo blue to deep purple while their sides are generally silver.

The Indian, Pacific, and Atlantic Oceans all contain tropical and subtropical waters where blue marlin can be found. They move often between the surface and a depth of nearly 330 feet while spending all of their lives in the water column. Low levels of oxygen and low water temps restrict the spread of depth.

Blue marlin requires warm, uniformly salinated surface waters that are effectively disturbed by surface winds. They are regarded as tropical billfishes. They occasionally beach themselves if they become disoriented. And that might be just what happened to the one in the amazing video below!

Fortunately, it seems that neither the people nor the blue marlin was hurt during the situation filmed on the beach. But the animal certainly caught many by surprise, and in the next video, you’ll be able to see another big fish — a shark — give some kids and adults the shock of their lives when it leaps up out of the water right in front of them!

The video shows a family fishing in the waters of Cape Cod Bay, and as one adult helps to reel in a line, another person, Doug Nelson, is filming when all of a sudden, a great white shark appears out of the water!

It snatches up the fish on the line in an instant, inches away from Doug’s son Jack, who immediately backs away and, understandably startled, yells, “Oh my god!” Luckily all the shark wanted was their catch, and is gone as fast as it arrived. Check out the incredible video below!
