Watch a Leopard and Lion in a Tree Fight So Hard The Entire Tree Shakes

Fights in the wild don’t always happen on the ground. Sometimes, they are so intense they follow up into trees or the water depths below. In the video below, let’s watch this fight break out high up in a tree.

Leopard and Lion Sighting in Africa 

The Instagram video posted in the section just above takes us to Africa. Given that this video is about a lion and leopard and the look of the terrain, we assume this is Africa. The Beautiful Animals Instagram page posted this video about a week and a half ago, and has received more than 15,000 likes. This channel shares videos of animals such as crocodiles, baby rhinos, antelopes, hyenas, and hippos, to list a few. 

Fierce Fight in a Tree

At the start of this short video posted at the top of this blog post, we see a lion and leopard fighting up in a tree. We can see a small antelope in the tree if we pause the video. There is one lion that is on the ground. 

So, here is the setting: it is most likely this leopard has hunted down this antelope and has put it up in the tree for safekeeping. The African Wildlife Report says, “The African leopard often drags its kills up in trees to keep it safe and avoid having it stolen by other predators.”  And the lions sniffed this fresh blood and went to steal it from this leopard. However, this leopard isn’t willing to give it up without a fight.

As the fight breaks out, we see them fighting so fiercely in the branches that the entire tree shakes. The antelope falls down and right into the paws of the lion lying below. She quickly stops once the lioness fighting in the tree realizes the antelope has fallen.

Are Leopards Faster Than Cheetahs?

According to the National Institutes of Health, 36 wild cat species exist. Of these species, the leopard (Panthera pardus) and the cheetah (Acinonyx jubatus)  are of this family. All felines may have many things in common. However, their speed is not something they have in common. 

The leopard can run up to speeds of 36 miles per hour. At the same time, the cheetah can run up to speeds of 70 miles per hour. Not only can the cheetah run faster than the leopard, it can run faster than any other land animal!
