Few animals work together so well as a pride of lions. Perhaps this is why they hold the title of “king of the jungle.” Lions are like a well-oiled machine that can take down just about any animal as long as they work together. Don’t miss the thrilling takedown in the video at the top!

At the start of this video, we see a safari tour stopped to see what this pride of lions is doing. A herd of buffalo is off in the distance. There are hundreds, if not thousands, of buffalo in this herd. And this lion pride is waiting for the perfect moment to strike where they can get a buffalo cut off from the herd.

A buffalo is easily about four times bigger than a male lion. So, this is why we see this pride of lions being patient until their moment to pounce is available. However, when a herd is together, they feel powerful and bold. They know there is strength in numbers. We see a lone buffalo charge at this pride, and the lions disperse.

The herd knows they need to pass through; however, they know they can’t pass through this territory for fear of being picked apart one by one. At 24 seconds, the pride successfully removed one buffalo from the herd.

Are Buffalos The Biggest Animal in Africa?

The buffalo (Syncerus caffer) is a large mammal many African predators covet. They are coveted because of their size and the food they can provide to one or a whole group of animals. Buffaloes weigh between 1,300 and 2,000 pounds and reach about six feet in length.

Given this size, it might be easy to assume that buffaloes are the largest animal in Africa. However, buffaloes are the size of an ant compared to the African elephant. Elephants in Africa easily weigh up to 12,000 pounds and reach 12 feet tall. It’s easy to see that elephants are the largest animal in Africa and the largest land animal alive

However, when looking at the buffalo, they are enormous compared to the lion. So, while they may not be the most giant animal in Africa, they are one of the biggest animals that lions will try to take down.
