Eagles are opportunistic when it comes to what they eat. They like their prey live and they have an excellent vantage point. Not just because they have an aerial view, but also because their vision is incredibly sharp. They’re able to see clearly almost two miles away.

Watch the Video Here!

In this next clip, you’re getting the view from inside a home. You can see the window and right in the center, an eagle has just swooped down to attack a small black dog. It has one of its claws in the dog’s neck area as the pup tries to get away. The eagle’s large wings flap about erratically as it gets dragged along the driveway.

The dog is crying, terrified, and desperate. A small tan-colored dog appears, responding to the cries of the other pup. It lunges at the eagle menacingly and backs away to avoid its talons. Its tactics work beautifully as the eagle gets distracted and outnumbered.

The eagle lets the small black dog go and it’s able to get away, a bit dazed and confused. It walks in a zig-zag before looking over to the other dog and heading that way, where there is strength in numbers. The black eagle stands on the driveway, looking over at both dogs, likely disappointed it didn’t get its meal.

The entire encounter took only a few seconds, but it was long enough to traumatize that poor dog. There is no one else in the video clip, except for the person who managed to capture this terrifying encounter from a safe distance.

Black eagles have distinctive features. In this clip, you can see its large wingspan, with finger-like edges. It has a brightly colored yellow bill and equally bright feet. These eagles hunt birds and mammals. Small dogs aren’t typically on their list of preferred meals, but since they’re opportunistic, they may take that chance.

Eagles are a protected bird species, which means you can’t harm them — even if they’re attacking your dog. The best way to protect your pup is to take preventive measures. You can keep any trees surrounding your home well-trimmed to prevent eagles from nesting there.

In the case that you are caught in a situation like this, you can make loud noises and flap your own arms to intimidate the eagle and get it away from your pup. The tan-colored dog in this video had an instinctual response to bark and lunge. It managed to startle the eagle enough, which ultimately saved the other pup from what was sure to be an agonizing death.
