Birds can be as aggressive as they are cute. If you’ve ever had a picnic at the park or on the beach, you’ve likely witnessed a bird trying to sneak its way over to steal your food. Birds love human food, and they’ll make it known.
In the clip featured at the bottom of this post, we see a bird flying off with an entire un-cut pizza. You read that right: The bird didn’t just grab one slice of the pie or pick at its toppings. No, it actually took the entire pizza pie in its beak and flew off with it before the videographer could even take a bite.
Is It Normal Behavior for Birds to Steal Human Food?
Many birds attempt to steal food from humans, but some are more persistent than others. Seagulls especially are aggressive in this aspect, eager to take a bite of your sandwich or grab a chip from your bag mid-beach day. In fact, research suggests they mimic human food choices, meaning this action is actually a sign of intelligence. While many birds shy away from humans, seagulls seem unafraid as they swoop low to satisfy their hunger.

Pigeons are also common birds that are known to steal your food. These common city-goers will walk right up to you and catch any crumbs that might fall. Some will even fly low and grab a bite of your meal if you’re not careful.
Additionally, geese — who are known to be aggressive — are not easily spooked by humans. They’ll take your food without a second thought. In fact, it’s not uncommon for them to steal your food right out of your hands. Some will even chase you to get a nibble of whatever delicious meal you’re enjoying.
What Do Birds Normally Eat?
Different species of birds eat different types of food. Generally, however, birds will feast on insects like beetles, crickets and flies, seeds, fruit, eggs, fish, dead animals, and other food sources.

In terms of human food, birds often flock to fruit like apples, berries, bananas, eggs, pantry grains, and even baked goods. However, they don’t typically discriminate when accepting food scraps from our kitchens. As demonstrated by the hilarious video below, they’ll even make a meal out of a whole pizza.
So, next time you decide to enjoy some delicious pizza outdoors, you should probably think twice before leaving it out in the open. A bird might just steal your food.
