We’ve said it before, and we will say it again. In the wild, it is all about fight or flight. Just like it is for us as humans when we are put in a precarious situation where our life depends on us choosing between one or the other. We all know that when it comes to animals in the wild, the lion is the apex predator. Not only is the lion known this among predators but against all animals in the animal kingdom. This is why the lion is known as the king of the jungle.

In the case of this video shown below, we see an intense fight between a zebra and a lioness. This video is posted by Wildlife Footage, which has 58,000+ subscribers. However, for this video, they have seen over 14 million views. That is how intense this fight or flight type chase takes.

We see this lioness was able to get up very close to this zebra without being detected. This is one of the strong skills that these large felines have. The ability to get up close without alerting their prey to their presence is a skill that not all predators have in the wild. As the lioness gets close to this zebra, she is now ready to pounce.

She pounces on top of this zebra. Mid-air is when this zebra notices that her life is in danger. This is when the zebra’s body will kick in with the fight or flight response. Fleeing is a very real possibility that a lot of prey will try to do. They know that an animal like a lioness, few animals can fight against them and come out winning. Let’s pause and take a look at how fast these two animals can run to see if a zebra would have the upper hand in winning by fleeing away.

A zebra is a large mammal that can reach upwards of 900+ pounds in some cases. These animals can reach up to speeds of 25 miles per hour, which is fast in terms of speed for an animal if you think about it. Let’s see if the lion can surpass this zebra’s speed.

This apex predator, able to reach up to 500+ pounds, can reach up to speeds of 35 miles per hour.

As we can see, the zebra has no hope of being able to outrun this large feline. So, the zebra in this video shown below did not attempt to flee. Instead, this zebra fought with every inch of his body. We see the zebra bucking hard in an attempt to shake this feline off. The zebra was eventually successful, and we see that the lioness was shaken off, and the zebra was able to get away free shockingly.
