What is the Life Cycle of a Sea Turtle?
Usually, the stages of a sea turtle's life cycle are classified as follows: eggs (nesting), hatchlings, juveniles, and adults. Mother turtles will come ashore during nesting season to create a hole in the sand and lay eggs.
A sea turtle's life begins when a female lays her eggs on a nesting beach, which is often in the tropics. A tiny hatchling emerges from the sand and makes its way to the water between six weeks and two months later (depending on the species), dodging every kind of danger along the way.
Around 75 to 200 green sea turtle eggs are laid in a single clutch and then buried. After two months, the newly hatched turtles frantically move toward the water, which will be their habitat for the rest of their existence.
Although green sea turtles take about a decade or even more to reach maturity, their lifespan can extend up to 100 years.
