This book really is the ultimate guide when it comes to construction vehicles. Each spread has pull-out tabs, folding pages that show extra aspects of the construction site, and plenty of vehicles and workers using them. It is organized by type of construction site. It includes everything from building a subway with fold-out pages that show the various parts of the construction site and all of the vehicles and people involved in getting things built. There are also lesser-known sites, such as a circus tent and a roller coaster, that will keep your child’s interest.

The book is not strictly about construction vehicles. It includes a lot of examples of engineering examples as well as the various roles of workers at the job site. This is a favorite bedtime story in my house. In fact, we’ve read it so many times that we’ve lost the dust jacket and a few of the pages have rips that we’ve had to tape. It tells the story of a team of construction vehicles, what they each do on the job site, and how they finish up at the end of a long day’s work. At the end of the book, all of the trucks are tucked in, and (in theory) so is your child.

This is part of a great series. Other books with these construction vehicles include a holiday-themed story and a daytime version all about these trucks. There is also a set of magnets, a puzzle, a board book version, and multiple games. Once your child falls in love with these construction vehicles, you’ll find them all over your house in various forms. Fortunately for parents, the book doesn’t get old and the rhymes are pleasant to read.

The book is a bit long for very young kids and their short attention spans. My children started to get really interested in the story around age 2 and still love it at ages 5 and 6. This is a picture book so the pages are not meant for baby hands. They tear easily, even when older and enthusiastic readers try to turn pages. We have had to tape up multiple pages, although that was after years of reading by three construction vehicle-loving kids.
