Back in the dark ages of the 20th century, my pal, Audrey, had an elderly dachshund named Memphis, and Memphis had become blind. He was also getting a bit stiff in his gait, but he loved nothing more than going for walks. So my determined friend gently placed Memphis in a doll stroller and away they went. Sadly, the doll stroller was not sturdy enough to go the distance, and Audrey ended up carrying Memphis back home. The happy ending includes a collapsible baby stroller, which, with some minor modifications, fit Memphis to a tee. Fast forward half a century, and strollers designed especially for our pets abound. We’ve come a long way baby! Sit back and be amazed by what the pet stroller market of the 21st century has to offer.

No-Zip Expedition Pet Stroller

Pet Gear’s horizontal door simplifies loading and unloading.

The design of Pet Gear’s stroller is ingenious. The back door, which opens horizontally, simplifies the task of getting Bowser on board. The dual-door design allows pets to enter (or be loaded) from either the front or back of the stroller, and the doors operate by a push-button system rather than the standard zipper-style closure. This economical model comes with two interior tethers, a cup holder, and a washable liner. The Pet Gear stroller ($184) is large enough to accommodate two small- to medium-size pets or one larger pet.

Gen 7

The Gen7Pets stroller is an excellent value.

I wasn’t too attentive to pet strollers before my neighbor’s pup, a tiny beast called Brutus, had some health issues that required one. Said neighbors, Kim and Zach, chose a Gen7Pets model. The G7 jogger features front and rear entry, a secure tether, ample storage, cup holders, and easy folding for storage or travel. When asked, Zach shared, “We have been very happy with our purchase. We have had it for over six years, and it has been very durable. No complaints.” Even with 6+ years of almost daily use, their stroller still looks new. Check out the G7 jogger (193.93) and Gen7Pets other strollers.

Cat Carrier On Wheels

The Mew Cats pet carrier is multi-functional.

This pet carrier from Mew Cats is as functional as it is stylish! The foldable stroller has a detachable portable carrier, which doubles as a cozy cat bed. And did I mention stylish? But don’t let its stunningly good looks fool you! This Mew Cats cat carrier is durable, safe, and sturdy enough to carry 26 pounds. The model in the image sells for $196.85, but Mew Cats has a variety of options from which to choose.

HPZ™ Pet Rover Prime

The HPZ™ Pet Rover Prime functions as a stroller and a carrier.

I like to think that my friend’s dog Memphis is wagging his tail at the options for 21st-century pets, pleased that they no longer have to suffer the indignity of riding in a doll stroller. The HPZ™ Pet Rover Prime is marketed as a luxury pet stroller, and it’s easy to see why. From the virtually indestructible anodized gold aluminum frame to the automotive-grade, pump-free rubber tires, your pet will feel the associated creature comforts this ride provides. With a maximum capacity of 50 pounds the HPZ™ Pet Rover Prime ($279.86) is designed for small- to medium-size pets.

Ibiyaya All-terrain Stroller/Trailer

The Ibiyaya performs double duty as a stroller and a trailer.

Ibiyaya has the perfect solution for outdoorsy dog owners. This all-terrain stroller comes with a bike tow bar, that effectively turns the stroller into a bike trailer. As a stroller, the Ibiyaya accommodates pets up to 66 pounds, while the trailer can hold 55 pounds. The wheels are air-filled rubber for a smooth ride, and the rear zipper-closure door is large, providing easy access for most pets. The Ibiyaya stroller comes equipped with two secure tethers and multiple reflectors for added safety. If you’re the adventurous type, you owe it to your put to see what Ibiyaya has to offer in addition to the happy jogger. Find it for $346.45.

Air Buggy Dome 2 Brake Set Iolani

The Air Buggy pet stroller allows your pet to travel in style.

There’s a lot of vegan leather in the Air Buggy Dome 2, but what got my attention is the hand brake and wrist strap. These safety features, combined with the stylish design and the durability and sustainability of vegan leather (which we called pleather back in the days of Memphis and doll strollers) make this stroller a stand-out in a market that is rife with pet strollers. The air-filled rubber tires provide your pet with a comfortable ride. The Dome 2 is designed for pets up to 22 pounds and comes with an even heavier price tag of $600.

Tavo Maeve™ + Roscoe™ 3-in-1 Pet Carrier

The Tavo stroller does triple duty: stroller, car seat, carrier.

This top-of-the-line offering from Nuna, an established human stroller company, is designed exclusively with pets and pet safety in mind. The Tavo pet carrier is designed for small- to medium-size pets of no more than 30 pounds. When used with the car base, the carrier ensures safe and secure travels for your pet.
