Habitat destruction, driven by human activity, is forcing wild animals to venture into areas that they would rather avoid. Frequently spotted in suburban neighborhoods and densely populated urban enclaves, these unfortunate creatures are simply trying to find a home in a shrinking habitat. As a result, having a pet door has become an open invitation to uninvited guests. But, fear not! Whether you wish to keep unwelcome critters out of your home or the fox out of your hen house, the automatic pet door market has you covered. Through the powers of WiFi and microchips, pet doors are more secure than ever. From timers to smart collars, our list contains eight automatic pet doors that will keep your chickens safe and your home free from freeloaders.

 Omlet Automatic Chicken Coop Door

Chickens are wired to rise with the sun, and during the height of summer, that can be pretty early. You can avoid the task of opening the coop at the crack of dawn with an automated coop door from Omlet. This smart door has a light sensor that opens the door at dawn and closes it at dusk. It can also be programmed to open and close at specific times. App users are notified each time the door opens and closes. According to Omlet, this smart door is compatible with all wooden coops and can be fitted to open left or right. The door, which comes in green or gray, has a base price of $229, but with all the bells and whistles (a light and some hardware), it will set you back $292.

Chickenguard’s coop door has four open/close modes: light sensor, timer, manual, and DualSafe, in which the light sensor and the pre-set timer are both operational. An anti-pinch safety feature stops the door from closing on your chickens. The Chickenguard door is compatible with three power options (solar/alkaline batteries/AC*) and comes in four standard colors (blue, green, grey, red), and a limited edition pink for $169.

*AC compatible, but the cord is not included.
