In South Carolina, there is a major tourism center and it’s Myrtle Beach. The subtropical climate along with all the attractions make this a hotspot on many a vacation calendar. Discover the best time to visit Myrtle Beach, including the expected weather and things to do!

Best Time to Visit Myrtle Beach

If you’ve dipped a toe in the Pacific Ocean, you know how chilly it gets. Things are a bit different over on the east coast, where the Atlantic Ocean is significantly warmer in comparison. Myrtle Beach is fantastic year-round but if you really want to relish the perfect weather for laying out, taking a dip, and enjoying the liveliness of entertainment, plan your trip anytime in June, July, or August.

In June, you can expect the low to reach 69 °F and the high to reach 85 °F on average. In July, it warms up a bit more with an average low of 73 °F and an average high of 88 °F. August highs are nearly the same at 87 °F and the low drops every so slightly to 71 °F. In July, you may experience some rain showers, but these don’t typically dampen an 88 °F day. Now, the weather can still be unpredictable so check that 10-day forecast before your trip to be sure as hurricane season lasts from June through November.

Although you could score a better deal and even warmer temperatures just before June in May, April, or March, you might consider whether you want to deal with spring breakers. If that’s the vibe you’re going for, by all means, book during these months. But for a more family-friendly time, pick the summer months. If you don’t mind cooler weather and want to visit while keeping as much money in your pocket as possible, head out there during the off-season, which starts in September.

June in Myrtle Beach: Weather and Things to Do

In June, the weather is just right in Myrtle Beach. The temperatures stay in the mid-80s and when evening rolls around, all you need is a light sweater wrapping you up as the temperature dips slightly under 70 °F. June makes up part of the peak season (as do July and August). Since the weather is warm and the environment is lively during this month, you have a lot of options in terms of what to do during your stay.

Starting June 6, there are Great American Summer Nights at Broadway at the Beach. This event runs from 7 PM to 10 PM and gifts you with live entertainment. You have music, character appearances, dance parties, some costumed stilt walkers, and even fireworks, which makes this a great place to take the whole family. There’s Brookgreen Art Festival this month as well where you can take in the beautiful works of local artists. It’s a two-day event only so be sure to check the dates!

July in Myrtle Beach: Weather and Things to Do

July is a bit warmer than June and you might experience some showers but that doesn’t dampen the fun. You have Independence Day to celebrate, after all. There are multiple events here so if you’re indecisive, start planning early. You can pick from patriotic 5Ks, parades, and fireworks shows. The weather is perfect for taking a dip but if you have little ones you’d rather keep away from the ocean, head on over to Wild Water & Wheels in Surfside Beach, where the fun is contained and therefore a bit safer — especially if you make your way over to the lazy river.

For adult fun, check out the Duplin Winery or make it a date night at RigaTony’s Myrtle Beach Murder Mystery Dinner Show. If you’re looking for a quick romantic getaway, hop on the Myrtle Beach Sunset Cruise. The boat is luxurious, and you get a chance to explore the Intracoastal Waterway, all with a gorgeous backdrop. It’s the perfect way to unwind a bit and take in all the beauty of Myrtle Beach and beyond.

August in Myrtle Beach: Weather and Things to Do

August in Myrtle Beach is just as pleasant as the other two months, which is why it’s considered part of the peak season. There are a couple of events worth exploring. For instance, if fitness isn’t something you leave by the wayside when you’re vacationing, you may want to take part in the Rock Your Squad 5K on August 8. SummerFest is a place where you can enjoy live entertainment, comedy, and even fun strolling acts for the kiddos. Brookgreen Gardens hosts children’s activity days and if you’re a crafts-lover, you can’t miss the Craftsman Classic Craft Show!
