It’s the color your cheeks turn when you’re feeling enchanted and maybe even a little embarrassed. There’s an innocence to this response, a telling of firsts that reveals to the world your innermost thoughts. Discover the meaning, symbolism, and proper occasions for pink roses!

The History of Pink Roses

A classic much like red roses (but that predates them), pink roses proliferate in the wild. These flowers have been alive and well for millions of years. Ancient works like Hebrew texts include them, and archeologists discovered a fossilized one that they estimated to be 40 million years old.

In Jerusalem there was but one blossom allowed, and it was the pink rose, which served as a symbol of creation. The way their petals spiral signals the importance of the journey forward. About 5,000 years ago, pink roses became a major part of China’s Imperial rose gardens and the tradition has continued since.

The Symbolism of Pink Roses

Pink roses aren’t symbolic of just one thing. There is versatility in these roses and the shade of pink plays into their meaning as well. Classically, pink roses are symbolic of kind expressions like admiration, gratitude, and love. They are elegant and beautiful and though not the best messengers for deep romance, are thought of as innocent and uplifting.

The Meaning of Light Pink Roses

Light pink roses symbolize innocence, gentle affection, sweetness, grace, and youth. When you think of a baby shower, the colors light blue and light pink come to mind. Pale pink roses tell of purity and femininity. They are also a symbol of affection — not a passionate expression but one that is tender, like the feelings associated with a first love.

This is a calm, joyous rose. Its meaning points to the ethereal nature of happiness. There is no hidden meaning to this rose. It’s meant to be light and easy to understand. There’s an elegance to this rose as well, signifying admiration. The innocent quality of pink roses points to youth. Untainted with deep colors, it’s a symbol of beginnings and a celebratory choice for those embarking on a new path.

The Meaning of Hot Pink Roses

This color is bolder. Hot pink roses have a stronger presence and send a stronger message. They symbolize appreciation and sympathy. They are striking, allowing you to recognize someone for their efforts and kindness. Their darkness tells of greater experience and they’re sometimes used to convey feelings of sympathy (even helpful in offering bright but knowing condolences).

Proper Occasions for Using Pink Roses

Thank You

Opt for hot pink roses when the message you want to send is related to gratitude. These offer a great pop of color and tell of your genuine appreciation. It could be a simple occasion such as sending a thank you message to a prospective employer (even recognizing the receptionist who facilitated the meeting). Or, it could be a thank you sent to a kind nurse who took care of you or a family member. It could also be a reminder to a long-term friend that you appreciate their love and care toward you.

Congratulations

The hot pink rose is also a great color when you want to let someone know how happy you are for their success. This can be a great option when it comes to helping a friend celebrate a promotion. Order or gather these to take to a graduation or graduation party. You might even take these to a housewarming party, congratulating the hosts on their new home or apartment.

Admiration

You need the light pink rose variety to send this message. When you are wanting to communicate admiration, it could be romantic or otherwise. For a new love, send these as a message that you are interested. If it’s a platonic situation, send these to express your admiration for the recipient. It might be someone helping to usher in your new career like a teacher or boss — ultimately, these convey esteem.

A purple rose may signal infatuation whereas a lavender rose represents rareness. A yellow rose is fantastic when celebrating friendship and a black rose can signal mourning and new beginnings.
