A Bullboxer is the cross of two breeds, the Pitbull and Boxer mix. The Boxer is a working breed that is energetic, loyal, and affectionate. The Pitbull is athletic, fearless, and an eager-to-please breed. Putting these two breeds together makes a powerful, protective dog for families with small children. This article will highlight the unique characteristics and features of this breed.

Bullboxers and Families

Bullboxers are a great family dog to have with children of all ages. Because these dogs have high energy, your child will always have an everyday playmate. However, training is a high recommendation because this breed can unintentionally harm young children during play time because of their energy. Training classes, clicker training, or reward-based training will help raise a well-trained dog.

Bullboxer Weight Management

Bullboxers are prone to overeating because of the amount of energy they use. If you are uncertain of what to feed your dog or how much, consult with a veterinarian. Bullboxers should consume smaller meals two to three times a day. Items to be on the lookout for when searching for the proper dog food are ingredients and calories. Just like humans, high-calorie intake in dogs can contribute to weight gain. Purina Pro Plan, Hills Science Diet, and Royal Canin are great food options to feed this breed. In addition to proper diet, exercise will keep your dog from becoming overweight. A minimum of two hours per day of activities is needed to keep these dogs active and fit. Because this breeds high energy, exercise will come naturally for them. Activities to try with your Bullboxers:

  • Swimming
  • Jogging
  • Agility course
  • Catch/fetch

Bullboxer Health

Mixed breeds tend to be a bit healthier than purebreds because when two breeds are selected to mix, some of the bad genetic traits can get “lost” in the mix. With this statement, your Bullboxer will likely have fewer health concerns than the two breeds alone. However, it is still important to under the potential health concerns both breeds have.
