Arizona isn’t known for having cold winters, and snow is rare, but temperatures during those times tend to average a high of 65 degrees Fahrenheit and a low of 44 degrees. Nevertheless, as with all locations, extremes happen sometimes, and that was the case during the hottest Christmas ever recorded in Arizona.

Many people associate Christmas with snow, but that isn’t always the case in warmer states like Arizona.

The hottest Christmas recorded in Arizona happened in 1980 when it reached 78 degrees Fahrenheit in Phoenix. Temperatures were close to the record in 2022, with a high of 74 degrees. While warm temperatures are common for the area, they don’t typically get that high on Christmas.

The coldest December in Arizona history occurred twice, once in 1953 and another in 1895. In both years, temperatures dropped to 27 degrees Fahrenheit, an unusual experience on Christmas in the area.

The coolest high experienced in Arizona was in 1987 when the temperature didn’t get above 47 degrees. Another interesting weather extreme on Christmas was in 1994 when temperatures in Phoenix didn’t drop below 54 degrees.

The weather in Arizona for Christmas 2023 is going to fall within typical average ranges. It looks like the high on that day in Phoenix will be 63 degrees Fahrenheit with a low of 46, and there won’t be any snow on the ground.

Other cities in Arizona can expect similar temperatures, although the northeast area will experience colder temperatures, like Flagstaff with a high of 40 and low of 15, or Tucson with a high temperature of 61 and a low of 39.
