In many, if not almost all, cases, a predator will win in a hunt and fight with a prey. It’s the natural order of things, which is why predators are called predators, and prey are called prey. However, now and then, we come across an animal who is not interested in becoming lunch and fights with tremendous strength to escape unscathed.

In this YouTube video shown below, we are right at the start of a lion attacking a zebra in the wild. What isn’t seen beforehand is the amount of time it took this lion to track and hunt this zebra. At the video’s start, we can see how startled this zebra was. This is where this lion’s ability to surprise its prey comes into play. If a predator can surprise its prey, the kill is usually successful because the prey does not have the time to respond properly by either fleeing or fighting.

As the video starts, we see a zebra grazing in an open field, unaware that behind him is a lion ready to attack. The lion makes his move, leaps up, and lands on top of the zebra. This zebra goes on for the fight of his life. We see him bucking his hind legs and moving his body violently to shake this lion off.

Check Out the Video Below!

We see that this lion is barely able to hold on to how hard this zebra is shaking him. At one point, the lion is completely upside down. His claws are hanging on for deal life on this wild rollercoaster. The zebra manages to take off running with the lion still attached. He comes to a small road where some vehicles have stopped to watch this fight unfold.

The zebra successfully drags this lion across the road, and then once on the other side, we see the zebra purposefully put his body down and flip his body over the lion. While a dangerous move, it was a smart one. The zebra was able to get the advantage he needed to get up and start running.

In a quick attempt to regain his hunt, the lion tries to grab onto the zebra’s rear end. However, this zebra is a bit too quick for this lion and is seen running off. This is one lucky zebra.

How Fast Can Zebras Run Compared to a Lion?

According to the San Diego Zoo, zebras can run up to 35 miles per hour. Which surprisingly is the same speed that lions can reach. So, it is interesting to see the importance of a lion using stealth before attacking; otherwise, it may not be able to catch a zebra.
