The thought of being hit by an oncoming vehicle isn’t a nice one at all. Being able to get up after something like that and act like nothing happened is something else, though! In the below clip, we see a moose fall victim to that kind of mishap. In a shockingly brief moment, an unsuspecting moose is tossed into the air by a car and falls to the ground. The car speeds off, and amazingly enough, so does the moose. Not one to be ruffled, he simply stands up and promptly leaves the road. Talk about being built like a tank!

This shouldn’t come as a surprise, but Alaska is one of the most likely areas on Earth where collisions involving moose occur. Due to the remote nature of settlements there and the overlap with moose habitats, it’s easy to see why. If you plan on driving through moose country anytime soon, we recommend checking out the official guidelines for maximum safety!

With that understood, let’s buckle up and take a tour of some of the more incredible facts about this durable critter.

Identifying where the moose belongs in the animal kingdom may be confusing at first. Is it a cow, deer, or horse? The true answer lies in a simple clue – moose have antlers. This feature places them in the Cervidae or deer family, and they actually hold the title of being the largest species within it. These solid animals are capable of weighing over 1,800 pounds and standing over 6 feet tall at the shoulder. They’re truly massive animals, with the matching strength to back it up!

As members of the deer family, these wintry titans are strictly herbivores. Due to potential food scarcity in their environment, they’ve adapted special workarounds for finding snacks. For example, their sense of smell is specialized for they can easily locate morsels, even under blankets of snow. Also, they have been known to dive fairly deep underwater in order to find hidden vegetation. Seeing they inhabit some of the harshest climates in the world, that’s a true testament to being a survivor!

What Do Moose Symbolize?

Similar to its relative the deer, moose are a strong symbol of leadership and thoughtfulness. Their resilience even in trying situations speaks volumes of hardiness and determination.
