History Of The Breed
While there may be ancestry of this dog dating back to ancient times, there aren't records to verify its existence. Written records have placed the pointer dog with origins dating back to Spain, during the time of the Middle Ages, where its ancestor, the Old Spanish pointer, was used by hunters. By the end of the War of Spanish Succession, British soldiers took these pointers home to England where the British began to develop the breed further, crossing them with the French pointer to get a faster dog, to arrive at the standard that you see today.
