Lanthanotus borneensis
In nearly a century, from the time the earless monitor lizard was first documented in 1877 and officially described in 1878, only a handful of specimens were collected from the wild.
These lizards look more like dragons than Komodo dragons.
The earless monitor lizard has been listed as endangered since 2019, and it is protected within the nations that comprise its habitat in Borneo.
