Adult endangered Golden Takin (Budorcas taxicolor) in the mountains of Tangjiahe National Park, Sichuan Province, China.
The 'Dong Gyem Tsey' or Takin has been diligently chosen as the National Animal of Bhutan because it is unique, rare and native to Bhutan. It is closely associated to religious history and mythology of the country.
Tibetan takin is a subspecies of takin (goat-antelope).
Takin is an artiodactyl mammal from the family of Polorogi. Takins live in the Eastern Himalayas, prefer dense thickets.
