Recognized around the world, National Black Cat Appreciation Day is celebrated annually on August 17. Wayne H. Morris created the holiday in 2011 to honor his sister, June, and her black cat, Sinbad, who had both recently passed away. Helping establish the holiday was Rikki’s Refuge Animal Sanctuary in Rapidan, Virginia, where Wayne Morris volunteers. In honor and celebration of June and Sinbad and black cats everywhere, A-Z-Animals has created a list of seven black cat products. Make no mistake, though. These products just pay homage to black cats — they are for humans only.

The Kitty-Cat Clock, with its ever-wagging tail and rolling eyes, is a quintessential piece of Americana. This playful clock has brightened walls and lifted spirits since its introduction in 1932. Created by Earl Arnault, the clock was manufactured during the Great Depression in response to the gloom and doom that many Americans were feeling. The smiling cat with a bow tie quickly became a cultural icon. Its rhythmic tail-swishing and steady eye-rolling represent a tradition that blends function with a dash of nostalgia. The Kitty-Cat Clock is widely available, including from the Museum of Modern Art online store. The store offers a small clock for $50 (or $45 with a museum membership) and a large clock for $60 (or $54 for members).
