Ginger Cat Appreciation Day is observed annually on September 1st. The holiday was founded in 2014 by Chris Roy in memory of his beloved ginger cat, Doobert. Roy created the day not only to honor Doobert, but also to promote animal rescue by connecting shelters with volunteers through his online platform, Doobert. These cats are called ginger cats in the UK and orange cats or orange tabbies in the U.S. They are known for being affectionate, friendly, and playful. While ginger cat guardians celebrate Ginger Cat Appreciation Day by giving extra scratches and perhaps a bite of tuna, A-Z Animals has curated a list of seven gifts for ginger cat lovers to help them feel appreciated, too.

Ginger Cat Tee

The gene for the orange coat color is on the X chromosome, so about 75% of orange tabbies are male.

This fun ginger cat t-shirt is available at TeePublic, an internet site on which artists can upload and sell their designs. This ginger cat sporting 3D glasses was designed by Scratch, a writer and illustrator of children’s books. The simplicity of the design, from the bold triangle stripes on the cat to the familiar paper 3D glasses of yesteryear, is certain to tickle the funny bone of the ginger cat lover in your life. Check out the ginger cat wearing 3D glasses tee, $23, along with Scratch’s other designs at TeePublic.

Ginger Cat Socks in a Box

Orange tabbies are often considered chatty and enjoy communicating.

Surprise the ginger cat enthusiast on your list with this whimsical boxed gift set. The ginger cat box contains 3 pairs of fun and functional cat-themed socks. The socks are described as “soft and made from high-quality fabric for maximum comfort.” Not only are these socks comfortable, but they are also colorful. Bright, bold patterns abound, including a Kandinsky-inspired abstract design. Pounce on this item, .49, from WittyLSocks.

Nacho Kitty: The Tales of an Orange Tabby

All tabby cats, including orange ones, have a distinctive M marking on their forehead.

The purrfect gift for the book/cat lover, Nacho Kitty: The Tales of an Orange Tabby (2024), written by Christine Simmons and illustrated by Andrew Simmons, offers a glimpse into the life of their orange tabby. The book chronicles the daily adventures of Nacho Kitty and is suitable for young children. A sequel, Nacho Kitty: Down on the Farm, was released in July 2025. Both titles are available at numerous online sites, including Amazon, where each book is .99.

Sew Heart Felt Ginger Cat

Orange cats are most frequently seen with green or gold/yellow eyes.

Meet Molly the marmalade cat. Molly is made using felting, a technique in which matted textile fibers, typically wool, are formed into 3D sculptures. Measuring approximately 2 inches long, Molly is the purrfect size for little cat lovers’ hands. Each Sew Heart Felt ginger cat, $19, is hand-felted using organic wool and has its own personality and character.

Amber Cat Stacking Glass Set

Ginger cats have a reputation for being friendly, social, and affectionate with their human families.

Reminiscent of a simpler time, this charming, four-piece glass set is crafted from amber-colored soda lime glass. When stacked, the glasses form a playful cat shape. Serving as both functional drinkware and decorative art, the glasses are ideal for serving cocktails or juice. The glassware is dishwasher-safe for easy cleaning. Show your appreciation to the thirsty ginger cat lover in your life with Uncommon Goods stacking cat glasses, .

Ginger Cat Necklace

Though the exact shade of orange varies considerably in ginger cats, it is the result of pheomelanin, a red and yellow sulfur-containing pigment, responsible for producing orange hair.

Whether waking or sleeping, these ginger cat necklaces, inspired by Van Gogh, are sure to elicit a smile from the orange tabby aficionado on your list. Handcrafted by Sagittarius Gallery in San Antonio, Texas, by Aja Trier, the studio’s original art ginger cat necklace is available in numerous designs. Materials include aluminum, brass, silver, and gold, hanging from a 22-inch chain. Elate your orange tabby fanatic with wearable art from Sagittarius Gallery for as little as $21.55.

Epiphany Glass Sleeping Kitties Collection

The stripes, swirls, and spots of the orange tabby act as natural camouflage, helping them blend into their surroundings.

The Epiphany Glass Sleeping Kitties Collection features hand-blown glass cat figures, each curled up peacefully as if napping. Crafted from molten glass at 2000°F in a Michigan-based, woman-owned studio, each kitty is unique, featuring layered colors encased in clear glass. April Wagner, the artist behind these beautiful kitties, has found her life’s calling, much to the delight of cat lovers and art enthusiasts everywhere. A heart and the artist’s signature adorn the base of each item in the Sleeping Kitties Collection. Measuring one-by-three inches, the collection includes all stripes and colors of felines, including gingers, $62.
