Signs of Credelio Overdose or Allergies in Dogs

Vomiting

The active ingredient in Credelio is lotilaner, which some dogs may be allergic to. If your dog is allergic or if there is an overdose of the medication, vomiting may occur. Work with your veterinarian to determine if Credelio is appropriate for your pup to prevent any adverse effects.

Diarrhea

Overdose or allergic reactions to Credelio may also result in diarrhea. If you suspect your dog may have gotten into the medication and taken more than the recommended dosage, take it to your nearest emergency veterinary hospital for treatment or contact an animal poison control center.

Muscle Tremors

Another more serious sign of overdose or allergy to Credelio is muscle tremors. This response requires immediate veterinary care. After administration of this or any medication, keep a close eye on your pup to act quickly should unusual symptoms occur.

Loss of Coordination

Your pup may develop an abnormal gait or start suddenly bumping into walls or furniture. If you notice your pup has lost coordination, they could have overdosed on the medication. Seizures

In more severe cases of overdose or allergic reactions, seizures may result. Prevent accidental overdose by securing this medication in an area your dog can’t reach. Additionally, always consult with your veterinarian before administering this or any other medication.

Credelio Risks to Consider

Overdose

Generally, Credelio is a safe medication. However, when it is used improperly, adverse events could occur, especially as the dosage ingested gets higher. Select a secure location in your home where you can store all medications away from curious, mischievous paws. Keeping medications secure can prevent accidental overdoses. Additionally, keep track of when you administer medications, so you don’t forget and accidentally administer more than recommended.

Allergies

Some dogs are allergic to lotilaner, the active ingredient in Credelio. This medication requires a prescription from your veterinarian — when you request it, have them review your pup’s medical history to determine if Credelio is the right choice. So long as your vet green-lights the medication, you and your pup should be good to go. However, if this is the first time you’re administering Credelio, stay near your pup for 24 hours to monitor any changes in behavior.

When Is Credelio Not an Option for Your Dog?

Dogs with diagnosed neurologic conditions, such as seizures, may not be the best candidates for Credelio. Lotilaner is an isoxazoline so you should discuss with your veterinarian if Credelio is safe for your pup. As of now, there are no known drug interactions with Credelio. However, you should be forthright with your veterinarian about any supplements or other medications your pup may be taking before administering Credelio.

Credelio Dosage Chart

When you administer Credelio, provide your pup with some food as well. Do not administer on an empty stomach. Your pup only needs a single chewable tablet per month. You can start during any month of the year and continue each month for years to come to ensure flea and tick prevention. The minimum weight for dogs taking Credelio is 4.4 pounds. Before administering this medication to puppies, they must be eight weeks or older.

Alternatives to Credelio

Credelio isn’t the only flea and tick medication on the market. You have some alternative options to select from that include Bravecto, Frontline, NexGard, Simparica, Advantix, Comfortis, and Sentinel Spectrum Chews. You might also try some natural alternatives to help repel fleas and ticks. Though natural remedies may be helpful, they may not be potent enough to get rid of an existing flea and tick infestation. Nevertheless, some pet parents use neem oil, diluted essential oils, lemon juice, diatomaceous earth, and even apple cider vinegar to discourage parasites from infesting pets and homes.
