After an exhaustive survey of all the dog breeds in the world, we have decided that the Chihuahua and the dachshund are the cutest. But that leaves us with a terrible Chihuahua vs. dachshund predicament – which is cuter? In this article, we brainstorm everything we can think of to help us determine the cutest breed in the world. No idea is too crazy! So, hang on for the ride!

Cute Dogs Are in Movies

Movies with Chihuahuas

You know a dog is cute when it’s cast in a movie. Chihuahuas have been in tons of movies: Beverly Hills Chihuahua, Legally Blonde, Hotel for Dogs, The Secret Life of Pets, World War Z, Snakes on a Plane, Lady and the Tramp, All Dogs Go to Heaven, and Mars Attacks are just a few. Plus, for many years, a Chihuahua was the mascot of Taco Bell, making the phrase “Yo quiero Taco Bellworld-famous!

Movies with Dachshunds

Dachshunds, also known as “Doxies” have received their fair share of big screen time as well. Here are a few examples: All Dogs Go to Heaven, Lady and the Tramp, The Secret Life of Pets, Beethoven, Garfield: A Tale of Two Kitties, Hotel for Dogs, Good Boy!, Hugo, Love the Coopers, Marmaduke, Sweethearts, and Wiener Takes All: A Documentary. And who could forget the character of Slinky Dog in all four Toy Story movies?!

Cute Dogs Are Well-Dressed

Dogs don’t always like wearing clothes, especially when they’re not used to it. Clothes feel funny rubbing on their fur, and sometimes cause friction around their joints. It can take some training for a dog to feel comfortable wearing outfits, no matter how cute. That being said, both Chihuahuas and dachshunds have a tendency to feel chilly. Both breeds enjoy burrowing under blankets. They can quickly learn that a sweater is just a cozy little portable blankie.

Cute Dogs Have ‘Boopable’ Noses

What’s a Boop?

So far, we aren’t making much progress in the Chihuahua vs. dachshund cuteness contest. But we have a way to sort this out: Noses. Specifically, how “boopable” are they? When you see this dog’s nose, do you have an irresistible urge to gently tap it with one finger and say “BOOP!”?

Who Needs Booping?

The Chihuahua has a cute little nose, no doubt. But they can also be feisty little things! You can’t be sure a nose boop won’t result in a nip on the finger. The dachshund’s face, on the other hand, is almost all nose! There’s no question: that nose is utterly booopable. So, in the case of Chihuahua vs. dachshund, the doxie nose wins most boopable!

Cute Dogs Get in Trouble

Cute dogs have an element of mischief. They may get stuck now and then, tear things up, or make a puddle. Then, they look up at you with big innocent eyes and you can’t help but smile. So, which is more prone to trouble, the Chihuahua or the dachshund? Honestly, this has to be a tie. They both like to bark, a LOT. They both have high energy, are very intelligent, and need a lot of mental stimulation. And they are both prone to intense separation anxiety when you leave them alone. All of this means they can find innumerable ways to create trouble! But when they look up at you with those eyes that make you melt, the big buggy eyes of the Chihuahua are cuter.

Goofy Proportions

Looks like we’ve evened the score yet again, but we have one more deciding factor: cute animals have goofy proportions! These may include paws too big for their bodies, ginormous heads, or ears that fall into their food bowl at mealtimes. Chihuahuas have been described as “deer-headed” or “apple-headed,” so that’s a cuteness plus! But, when it comes to goofiness, the doxie definitely wins. What dog is more wackily disproportionate than the sausage-shaped dachshund? We even call them “weiner dogs!” We love those stubby little legs, super-long body, and stretched-out snout. Yes, the dachshund has to be one of the goofiest-looking dogs around.
