There used to be no limits to the vast open space that animals could live in. And then, man moved into their territory and built fences, housing developments, and cities. This has caused so much danger for animals regarding their well-being, ability to repopulate, and the territory they need to survive. Let’s see what happens in the video below. When a moose comes face to face with an artificial structure, it can’t get over it.

Moose Caught on Fence

As the video starts, we see two moose trudging through the snow. They have come across this fence that they must get over to continue their journey. They are likely searching for food to eat during this winter wonderland season.

One moose made it over and is walking calmly. The second moose jumps up, his front leg gets caught, and he falls straight down. At first, it might seem humorous enough to laugh at. However, we quickly realize the moose antler snapped off.

Moose antlers are extremely heavy and can continue to grow daily at about an inch. According to the National Park Service, “Pairs of antlers from mature bull moose average 45-50 pounds in Interior Alaska, with the heaviest weighing up to 75 pounds!”

While hurt, this moose antler will grow back in time. But there’s no telling if this moose’s legs were also broken. So, how high can moose jump?

Moose (Alces alces) of the family Cervidae are massive mammals that weigh anywhere from 600 to 1,580 pounds. They also can reach up to six feet tall. People who have come across moose for the first time make remarks such as, “I had no idea just how large they really are until I was next to one.”

Well, in addition to their impressive size, they are also able to jump quite high. The Canadian Government adds, “A moose can jump six feet – while a six-foot fence can be effective, it is better to construct an eight-foot fence.” We can see from the video above that the other moose cleared the fence with no issues, but for some reason, the second moose got his leg caught, which caused this tragedy.
