One might be curious about a person’s eyebrow growth rate for numerous reasons. Maybe you made an aesthetic choice that no longer resonates with you, or perhaps you accidentally got a bit ambitious with your tweezers. Accidental, intentional, it’s all the same: the eyebrow growth cycle doesn’t discriminate. If you want to know how long it takes for eyebrows to grow back and learn some growth hacks and fun facts along the way, this article is for you.

How Long Will It Take For A Set Eyebrows To Grow Back

Eyebrow growth, like hair growth on the rest of the body, can vary significantly from person to person. Even though the length of the cycle’s phases can vary, every individual’s hair goes through the same growth cycle. Here are the three phases of the hair growth cycle broken down:

  • Anagen: The active growing phase.
  • Catagen: An in-between phase, often lasting between two and three weeks, where the follicles of the hair begin to shrink and growth ceases.
  • Telogen: The final hair growth phase is when the hair begins to rest and shed. The oldest hairs will naturally begin to fall and make way for new ones.

The anagen, or growing, phase for eyebrows is typically far shorter than the phase that the hair on the scalp goes through. Roughly speaking, eyebrows will grow 0.14 to 0.16 mm in length per day. Some people will see significant growth in their eyebrows within four to six weeks, but generally speaking, it would take three to four months to grow back a set of eyebrows from nothing.

Why Are My Eyebrows Thinning?

There are, unfortunately, many reasons why your eyebrow hair has become noticeably more sparse. Keep in mind, though, that there are procedures and products in our modern era that allow for more control over the appearance of eyebrows. Having thin eyebrow hair is not necessarily a cosmetic issue that has to go unfixed.

First, your eyebrows might be thinning because you’re plucking them far more often than you used to. When you pluck, you interrupt the eyebrow growth cycle. The hair that you are pulling has a chance of damaging the follicle and, in some instances, even causing it to scar. It’s best to wait a few weeks between plucking, not days.

Another reason for interrupted eyebrow growth could be an underlying medical condition. There are a few conditions that impact general hair growth, including:

  • Thyroid Issues: Both the hair on your head and your skin are highly impacted by thyroid problems. Eyebrows are no exception to this.
  • Anemia: This illness greatly contributes to low iron levels, which interrupt hair growth significantly.
  • Vitamin Deficiency: Alongside iron, deficiencies in biotin, zinc, and vitamin B can all be disruptive to the growth of your eyebrows.

The final explanation for slowing eyebrow growth is also the most natural: aging. You may know quite well that when growing older, the hair on your scalp begins to thin substantially. It isn’t just a problem with the hair on your head. Your eyebrows may also suffer the brunt of time.

How To Grow Your Eyebrows Faster

Though many aren’t backed by clinical evidence, there are dozens upon dozens of eyebrow growth acceleration hacks and products online. Getting your eyebrows to return to their former glory is a waiting game at its core. Before anything else, patience is the true key to healthy, full eyebrows. But patience isn’t something you can buy on a shelf! Here are some popular hair growth methods that you can use.

  • Castor Oil: Rich in fatty acids that accelerate hair growth, the use of castor oil to hasten hair growth is a common choice. Simply saturate your eyebrow hairs with the oil each day. For this method to work, the important part is consistency.
  • Coconut Oil: Another popular eyebrow growth remedy is coconut oil. Also full of fatty and amino acids, coconut oil has been historically used to accelerate hair growth in many cultures. It is also quite hydrating, so issues like dry and flaky skin around the eyebrow can be simultaneously resolved.
  • Saw Palmetto: Though this solution has only come to light recently, it certainly couldn’t hurt. Introducing this palm in the form of tablets or capsules may help with thinning eyebrow hair. However, it is typically used for prostate issues.

In addition to these natural solutions, you could also opt to get a modern procedure to mimic the appearance of fuller eyebrows. Microblading, henna, and tinting are all viable options that have increased in accessibility in recent years. As they say, fake it ’till you make it!
