A family was celebrating a birthday party last week at Chipinque Park in San Pedro Garza García, Mexico. Family and friends were celebrating the birthday of 15-year-old Santiago. Just as they sat down to eat tacos and enchiladas, a huge black bear jumped up onto the table they were eating on.
In the video posted below, we immediately see the mother holding her son to her chest and covering his eyes. This bear got within inches of this mom and her son. She later explained to the news that her son has Down syndrome. “That’s why I covered his eyes because I didn’t want him to see it and scream or run,” she continued. “I was afraid that if he got scared or screamed or scared the bear, that the bear would react.”
The black bear was not very interested in this mom and her son. Rather, he was more interested in these delicious tacos! Throughout the video, we see him going from plate to plate and enjoying the tacos. Eventually, the other family and friends not seen in the video were able to distract the bear by throwing some enchiladas on the ground and leading the bear away.
The mother had the strength of a thousand bears in this moment. We never saw her flinch an inch while this bear was so close. Santiago was later asked if he was scared, and he replied, “Yes, a lot.”
