Thirteen-Year-Old Catches Master Angler Award-Winning Fish

On Muskegon Lake, Roger Slorf enjoys his golden years. Nothing compares to spending the day on the lake with his grandkids, Jameson, 13, and Aiden, 10. Since around four years ago, Jameson has been pursuing this Master Angler fish. 

These years have been spent by him searching the lake for his prize-winning catch. The dynamic duo went fishing as usual to enjoy a beautiful summer’s day. When something pulled on Jameson’s line, he had no idea what was on the other end. 

Shocking both the young man and his grandfather was a massive muskie! It wasn’t just any muskie. This fish was an award-winning, near-record-breaking catch! “I think the state record was 48 inches and this was 45 and one-quarter inches,” says Roger. 

Over 45 species are available in the Master Angler program, where you can compete for awards. Every entry achieving the specified length requirement for each species receives the Master Angler Patch.
