Once known as the Brittany Spaniel, this gorgeous breed is renowned for its prowess as a hunting dog. In case you were wondering, they aren’t actually a type of Spaniel, instead being closer related to the Spotter. As a working dog, these animals are highly intelligent, easy to train, and very friendly. Care must be taken while training them, though, as they are more easily upset – being too hard on them isn’t recommended! Similarly, these dogs have a disposition of being notoriously shy, so effort must be made to encourage them to enjoy social activities.

For those with a discerning eye, it may be obvious there are two different variants of the Brittany. The original, French version of the breed came from the region of France bearing the same name. A while later, an American derivative of the breed was introduced. Although extremely similar in nature, the primary differences include their size and preferred use. Basically, French Brittanys are smaller and not quite as fast as their American counterparts. Also, the French dogs are usually more adept at hunting rabbits as well as birds, while American ones stick to hunting birds alone. Despite the slight contrast, both versions of the Brittany come in the same dazzling array of colors!

As many durable reptiles often are, box turtles are capable of living for a shockingly long time. As of this writing, the current records for the various box turtle breeds raised in captivity are just shy of 30 years old. However, many turtles found in the wild have given researchers the idea that a more normal lifespan for them is between 40 and 50 years. And if that wasn’t enough, rare individual turtles spotted across the world have been estimated to be closer to 150 years old – that’s a lot of birthday candles!
