Minnesota is known for having thousands of lakes, its harsh winters, and many more things like spam, the Mall of America, and being a major hub in the Midwest. Besides its great Scandinavian food, many wealthy people hail from the state. But in terms of wealth, where do the counties in Minnesota stand within the state? Which counties in Minnesota are at the top of the list? Let’s take a look at the seven wealthiest counties in Minnesota.

7. Sherburne County

Located in east central Minnesota, Sherburne County has a population of 97,000 people.

The economic drivers in Sherburne County are diverse, but its proximity to the Twin Cities is what really drives the county’s median income and median home prices up. Most people commute in and out of the county to the bigger cities. The median home price in the county is $364,000 and the median income is $92,000. Among the county’s notable residents who have lived or still live there are former Secretary of State Mary Kiffmeyer, scientist Mary K. Noble, and politician Mark Douglas Olson.

6. Wright County

Located in east central Minnesota, Wright County has a population of 141,000 people.

The main economic drivers in Wright County include healthcare, retail, and manufacturing.  Various larger corporations in the county supply people with jobs. When it comes to the county’s wealth, the median home price is $360,000 and the median income is $94,000. Among the county’s notable residents who have lived or still live there are American football coach Swede Larson, politician Walter Hudson, and pilot Rhea Woltman.

Located in southeast Minnesota and part of the Minneapolis–St. Paul Metropolitan area, Dakota County has a population of 443,000 people.

The county has grown substantially in recent years as the Twin Cities have grown. The county has become a suburban bedroom community serving residents who commute to work in the bigger cities. When it comes to the county’s wealth, the median home price is $377,000 and the median income is $93,000. Among the county’s notable residents who have lived or still live there are former politicians Ignatius Donnelly and Harold Stassen, and the first Governor of Minnesota Henry Hastings Sibley.

4. Hennepin County

Located in southeast Minnesota and part of the Minneapolis–St. Paul Metropolitan area, Hennepin County has a population of 1.2 million people.

The county is within Minneapolis and also partly a suburban county, which means that there are a lot of corporations — both private and public — located within the county. People also commute within, as well as in and out of the county to the Twin Cities. When it comes to the county’s wealth, the median home price is $373,000 and the median income is $85,000. Among the county’s notable residents who have lived or still live there are game designer Dave Arneson, journalist Cyndy Brucato, and politician Linda Higgins.

3. Washington County

Because of its proximity to St. Paul, Washington County has served as a suburban county of the big city. Its economy is mostly agricultural with some corporations interspersed throughout. When it comes to wealth, the median home price is $421,000 and its median income is $102,000. Among the people who have lived in or still live in Washington County are Seann William Scott, Alex Neuberger, and singer Justin Pierre.

2. Scott County

Because the Shakopee-Mdewakanton Indian Reservation is within the county, the tribe has made a lot of money because of its hotels and various casinos. This, in turn, has also spurred the economy for, not only the tribe but also the county. Scott County is also part of the Minneapolis–St Paul metropolitan area. When it comes to its wealth, the median home price is $422,000. Tribal members of the Shakopee-Mdewakanton Indian Reservation have lived here for thousands of years.

Most of Carver County’s economy is fueled by farms and corporations of the sort. There are also manufacturing companies located in Carver County. However, Carver County is part of the Minneapolis–St. Paul metropolitan area, which means that there is a lot of commuting involved. When it comes to its wealth, the median home price is $445,000 and the county’s median income is $107,000. Among its notable residents that have lived or still live in the county include musician Prince and conjoined twins Abigal and Brittany Hensel.
