At the start of this video, we see that traffic has come to a standstill on this small road in Sri Lanka. A bus has stopped because a massive elephant is in front of it. This elephant is refusing to move himself. And so we see one of the bus passengers throw something out of the window. We see that it is a bunch of bananas.

The elephant falls for this trap and goes up to grab them so he can eat them all. As the elephant eats them, we see the bus pass by quickly. However, this elephant refuses to leave the road. He is convinced that if he can stop other buses and cars, they will give him food, too. This elephant is so big that it seems bigger than these standardized buses.

How Many Elephants Are in Sri Lanka?

There are three different species of elephant. The African savanna, or bush elephant, the African forest elephant, and the Asian elephant. It is estimated that there are 500,000 elephants, and their conservation status is not considered threatened.

It is estimated that of these quarter of a million elephants, there are 2,500-4,000 elephants left in Sri Lanka.

What do Elephants Eat?

Elephants are herbivores, which means that they will eat plant matter. Elephants will eat food such as grass, roots, and fruit. To keep up with their massive weight, it is estimated that they can eat up to 330 pounds of food per day.
