The phytosaur lived during the Late Triassic Period over 200 million years ago which is during the Carnian age.

Phytosaur skull (USNM V21376) collected from Howard County, Texas. Identified as Rutiodon sp.[1], Angistorhinus sp. (Stocker et al., 2013), or Angistorhinus grandis (Jones & Butler, 2016).

The phytosaur had sharp teeth that they used to catch fish and had long, pointed jaws.

These creatures resembled crocodiles and walked on land and swam in the water, making them semi-aquatic.
