Uranus is considered an incredibly eccentric and unconventional planet in the realm of astrology. Even the discovery of Uranus was unique. It was the first planet to be discovered using a telescope. Originally, the planet was not named Uranus but was called “the Georgium Sidus” after King George III of England. Eventually, the name Uranus was proposed to keep the trend of planets named after Greek deities.

In Greek mythology, Uranus was the god of the sky, one of the earliest Greek gods. He was the father of Saturn and the grandfather of Jupiter. It is also the only planet that has an extreme tilt in its axis. It’s quite fitting then, as one of the most unique planets in the solar system, that this planet would rule over rebellion, eccentricity, and innovation in technology. This planet is associated with progression and brilliance and doesn’t like to follow the rules. Instead, Uranus represents groundbreaking change.

The planet also rules over the sign of Aquarius. Aquarius is known for being a freethinking sign that marches to the beat of its own drum. It takes the planet Uranus roughly seven years to transit through one sign. It takes the planet 84 years to go through all of the zodiac signs. Overall, this planet is known for bringing about lots of change, whether we’re ready for it or not!

In our birth charts, the planet Uranus symbolizes changes and progressions that occur in our lifetime. Uranus is considered a generational planet because it takes seven years for it to transit from one sign to the next. Therefore, you will share this placement with many other people who are in the same age group as you. However, the exact house placement where Uranus is in your chart will show you where this planet will shake things up for you.

For example, an individual with Uranus in the 7th house may experience unexpected changes and progressive outlooks when it comes to relationships. Uranus in our birth charts is where we must bring a new perspective on things to light. This planet doesn’t enjoy upholding the status quo simply because it’s how things have always been done. Instead, Uranus wants us to embrace our individuality and what makes us different in order to bring the world a new vision.

Finally, when Uranus touches another planet in our birth chart, it will add a touch of originality and quirkiness to the energy expressed. A great example is individuals with Sun-Uranus aspects. These individuals will be highly independent and greatly value what makes them unique. They will want to stand out from the crowd and be incredibly headstrong.
