The intricacies of astrology and birth charts run far deeper than just the sun sign. In astrology, each planet has its placement, along with the Sun and Moon. These placements represent different elements of an individual’s personality, with the Moon having more to do with inner feelings and reactions. So, if you are curious about what it means if your moon is in Aquarius, here’s all you need to know.

What Does It Mean?

Just as one’s sun sign reflects the position of the Sun when you were born, the moon sign reflects where the Moon was at the time of birth. The Moon does more to govern your emotions or things bubbling below the surface. So, your moon sign may tell you more about yourself than your sun sign.

The Moon moves through the 12 signs approximately once a month. Certain behaviors or inclinations can be more likely when the Moon moves through the signs, and even more so when your birth chart aligns with the stars. Your moon sign is often different than your star sign, but if the two align, it means you’re very cohesive in your wants, needs, and the way you behave outwardly.

Aquarius aligns with the ninth planet, Uranus and is the last air sign. People who are born between January 20th and February 18th have an Aquarius sun sign. Sun signs reflect more about the person’s outward appearing traits. However, you don’t need to be born in that time to have your moon in Aquarius. Each person has a sun, moon, and rising sign that can influence their life.

If your moon is in Aquarius, you are likely to feel very in touch with yourself and the world when the moon is passing through this sign. You might feel more open-minded and willing to try new things. As a social sign, participating in socializing during this time can have even more profound effects on you. Aquarius moons tend to keep their emotions in check, but you might find an emotional outburst waiting when the moon passes through the 11th house.

Personality Traits, Strengths, and Weaknesses

Your moon sign typically explains your innermost feelings and desires. As the Moon is related to water and the tides, it pulls out an individual’s deeper feelings and thoughts from beneath the surface. Having your moon in Aquarius often aligns with the individual being a focused, rational person. They are usually quite clear on their goals and intentions almost to a stubborn fault. Despite the name, Aquarius is an air sign, not a water sign. Air signs usually are seen as innovative, collaborative, and dedicated to “the greater good.” However, air signs can have a more aloof personality too. This can make cultivating deep connections difficult.

If you were born with an Aquarius moon in your birth chart, you might see these personality traits:

  • Socialable
  • Outgoing
  • Friendly
  • Curious
  • Intelligent
  • Idealist

Strengths

An overwhelming trait of people whose moon is in Aquarius is their open-mindedness and preference to go against tradition. The outgoing and curious traits that come naturally to this sign amplify their strength of thinking outside of the box.

Another strength that, if gone too far, can even act as a weakness is their objectivity. For the most part, this trait makes decision-making easy. On the other hand, there are times when being too objective can be a flaw. Therefore, it’s important to know the correct time and place for each and to what degree objectivity versus emotional thinking is needed.

Weaknesses

One weakness of Aquarius moons is their propensity to emotionally detach. While this trait can be good for self-preservation and swiftly analyzing situations, there is the possibility personal relationships will suffer. To avoid this, awareness is key. Emotional detachment can be consciously traversed with attempts to deeply bond with people you are truly close to and whose relationships you wish to maintain.

People with their moon in Aquarius might struggle with being emotionally vulnerable. This and emotional detachment go hand-in-hand. Embracing vulnerability and sharing it with the people you trust most can help move past this barrier and strengthen those bonds.

Another weakness people with Aquarius moons might have is emotional instability and unpredictability; this might stem from the sign’s need for rationality and intellect. Strong emotions can cause conflict to the rational mind, but finding space for both emotionality and rationality is key in navigating these tricky waters.

Compatibility

The moon sign usually points to the emotions and subconscious responses of an individual. Therefore, someone’s moon sign can be a lot more telling in their relationships than their star sign. Those with their moon in Aquarius are likely to be more romantically or emotionally compatible with people whose moons are in Aries or Libra. In general, people with their moon in Aquarius find challenging relationships the most rewarding. This doesn’t mean challenging as in difficult, but they prefer friends or partners who invite them to think of things differently or help them learn new things.

Aries

An Aquarius moon is compatible with an Aries moon because they can help to mellow each other out. An Aries moon is more likely to have an emotional tendency. The logical and cool nature of the Aquarius moon can help to balance those feelings. Additionally, each sign thrives on independence and can respect the other’s desire for solo activities or time.

Libra

Someone with a Libra moon is likely to share commonalities with an Aquarius moon in their intellect and ideals. Libra moons are also not overly emotional, which can be a major plus considering emotionality can be a struggle for those whose moon is in Aquarius.

Fellow Aquarius moons are likely to get along with each other, though they are often better paired with people who can balance out their objectiveness and idealist tendencies. Air signs might gravitate toward fire signs, though someone’s sign is only one aspect of a much larger personality that should be taken into account.
