If there was a way to help your dog live longer, most owners would agree: it’s a no-brainer and something you’d proudly invest in. Besides keeping your pup up to date on vaccines, on a healthy diet, and exercised regularly, what can be done to promote a long, healthy canine life?
Science and veterinary medicine company, Loyal, may have a new solution. This solution may very well help extend the life of pet dogs by at least a year, and could hold promise for the same results in humans. This is Loyal’s story and the products they’re manufacturing for dog parents everywhere.
Meet Loyal, the Company Extending Dogs’ Lives Everywhere

While still in the clinical testing phase for all of their products, Loyal is a start-up company dedicated to keeping aging dogs healthy. Backed by certified vets and over 150 research papers written by their own staff, Loyal posits the question: what if something could be done about the typical effects of aging in dogs, the facts we believe can’t be changed?
Utilizing over 190 years of available research, Loyal aims to “develop medicines that prevent or delay the onset of age-related diseases”. The company cites that the majority of canine (or human) medicines are reactive, or designed to treat symptoms of diseases rather than the root cause. Loyal is approaching things differently by targeting dogs’ genes, advocating for preventative care rather than reactionary.
Named the Canine Geriatric Syndrome, Loyal has developed unique definitions and frameworks for vets and pet owners alike to help identify aging in dogs. Canine Geriatric Syndrome encapsulates all of the ailments and changes dogs face as they grow older. This gives vets a clearer way to assess and diagnose senior dogs in need of solutions.
The solutions in question? Loyal is currently testing daily supplements designed to increase the average dog’s lifespan by at least a year.
Loyal’s Diverse Product Line

While all are still pending FDA approval, Loyal has three distinct products in the works. Let’s discuss them in detail in anticipation of their eventual release. We’ll also posit when they might be available for the average consumer.
- LOY-002 targets senior dogs aged 10 and up. It’s designed to remedy any metabolic dysfunction that occurs as a result of aging. Meant for dogs over 14 pounds, LOY-002 is a daily pill shown to increase the canine lifespan by at least one full year. It is the product farthest along in terms of FDA approval, slated for tentative release in late 2025-2026.
- LOY-003 is designed for large dogs, or any dog over 40 pounds. Age isn’t a factor for this daily pill. It’s all about size, given that large dogs live significantly shorter lives on average compared to small dogs. This prescription targets a specific growth hormone connected to big dogs’ limited lifespan. It is still in the testing phase but may receive approval from the FDA by 2027.
- LOY-001 is the same as LOY-003, except it’s injection-based. Performed and prescribed by your vet, this long-acting option is ideal for large dogs who don’t take pills well or pet parents who prefer the ease of occasional appointments versus daily maintenance. It is also undergoing clinical trials and on the same rough timeline as LOY-003.
Decreasing the Rate of Aging: How Loyal’s Products Work

Loyal’s products may improve your dog’s quality of life.
Instead of assuming aging is inevitable, Loyal pursues scientific solutions rooted in preventing the onset of aging in dogs. They understand the symptoms of canine aging, but aren’t designing medications that treat those symptoms. Instead, Loyal targets metabolic health and specific genes to mitigate the issues that arise as years pass- particularly frailty and weakness.
By increasing healthy metabolic activity in senior dogs, the effects of aging decrease. This leads to not only a higher quality of life for your canine, but also an increase in the average years your dog may live. The other prescriptions on offer by Loyal behave similarly. By singling out the often-overactive IGF-1 hormone in large dogs, Loyal plans to decrease the gap in lifespan between small and big dogs.
When Will Loyal’s Products Become Available?

As of early 2025, Loyal’s products are unavailable to the general public. All three options are still undergoing clinical trials which include safety studies and companion animal testing. However, LOY-002, the senior dog solution, may be available in early 2026. It is further along than the other medications and could be pending FDA approval by the end of the year.
LOY-001 and LOY-003 require further studies and tests, as neither have received FDA attention as of 2025. However, the success of LOY-002 will likely speed up the timeline for Loyal’s other medications. The anticipated timeline for all products to be released appears to be late 2027. Keep in mind, however: it will all depend on the FDA.
Could Loyal’s Life-Extending Products Help Humans?

Loyal and many other canine-based studies may prove that certain medications can help humans combat aging. These companies are currently designing medications for dogs. But the research and findings gleaned from these studies may translate to human biology.
Stem cell research is one of humanity’s greatest scientific endeavors to date. It holds great promise in terms of anti-aging medications. However, studies on senior dogs may give us the insight we need to utilize other research methods to help aging humans, too.
While the scientific community remains divided on the prospects of Loyal’s research being useful to human lifespans, it does make one thing clear. Targeting specific genes or metabolic processes to slow aging rather than treating the symptoms of aging is the way forward- for both man and man’s best friend.
