For hunters and people of adventure, coming across wildlife is of no surprise. Even coming across great animals such as moose, bears, or wolves doesn’t necessarily surprise them. However, being tackled by one would for sure surprise them!

In the above slides, you’ll see the images of a real-life intense encounter. The video, which can be seen in full here, is mysterious on many fronts. We don’t know where this video has taken place as there is no background information on it. However, what we do know is what we can see captured on camera. Click through the slideshow above to see the encounter play out.

A Gloomy Day

It is a rather gloomy day wherever this many are. We see a blanket of grey skies overhead, various trees that have already been cut down and are strewn out in front of him, and a few trees that are close by are barren as the leaves have fallen off.

The Bear Appears

If we pause the video posted below at 20 seconds, we see the image of his bow in his hand emerge into camera view. This is a bow hunter, which means this man knows how to hunt because bow hunting is not for the faint of heart.

Are you able to pick out the bear at the 20 seconds that we have stopped the video on? If you’re like us, you probably did not spot the bear right away. After all, this hunter is a far way off, and this black bear has blended perfectly into his environment. But, if you look dead center of the camera view, you can see a small black blob. However, we will later see that this black blob is not by any means small when it gets up close!

The Bear Moves Closer

As the black bear continues to sniff around for food and eat what he finds along the way, we see him starting to get closer and closer. We can notice how still this hunter is being. He is ensuring he is making no sudden movements so he doesn’t frighten this bear at all.

Suddenly, we hear the bear make a large grunting noise. This alerts the hunter immediately to the fact that this bear is not happy there is someone close by. The man wastes no time at all; he starts to yell at the bear.

The Man Somehow Emerges

Miraculously, we see the man pick up his camera again and get the heck out of Dodge!

We saw from this encounter that this hunter was extremely knowledgeable. He wasted no time in knowing exactly how to handle a charging bear. The man didn’t remain quiet and still. And he also didn’t run off scared (as if a bear couldn’t chase him down anyway.) Instead, he stood his ground. However, it still begs the question of whether this black bear could have killed him.

Black bears weigh anywhere from 220-600 pounds and reach up to 6.5 feet in height. And while they for sure outweigh a man in weight, speed, and power, it might surprise us to find out that most attacks are purely in response to them feeling threatened. The North American Black Bear Center had this to say about black bear attacks.

“The 750,000 black bears of North America kill less than one person per year on the average, while men ages 18-24 are 167 times more likely to kill someone than a black bear.”
