Are Corgis Low or High Maintenance?

Corgi are known for their intelligence and affectionate nature. They’re known for being the favorite pet of The Late Queen of England, however, this breed is a wonderful low-maintenance house dog. However, prospective owners should know that their thick coats require regular care.

These adorable pups have a medium-length double coat which does require frequent grooming, ideally more than once a week.

Here are a few factors to consider before owning a corgi:

  • Corgis sometimes have health issues
  • They tend to be vocal and like to bark
  • Corgis are not your typical couch potatoes, they like active owners
  • Their intelligence is remarkable thus they need a lot of stimulation
  • Expect barking, chasing, nipping, and other herding tendencies
  • Be prepared for significant shedding
  • They thrive on a specific dietary plan
  • Corgis demand regular exercise and mental stimulation
  • Grooming their thick double coat can be time-consuming so be prepared to brush
