Is it your goal to own your own Cavapoo puppy this year? There’s a reason why this cross between a Cavalier King Charles and a Poodle has become so popular over the last few years! Before you head out to buy a new furry friend, you should check out this helpful guide!
How Much Does a Cavapoo Puppy Cost?
You can expect to spend anywhere between $1500 and $4000 for a Cavapoo puppy from a reputable breeder. As always, do your homework and ensure that the breeder you send over money. Meeting in person and seeing their kennel for yourself is crucial.
Puppy mill breeders are easy to spot because they usually charge less for their puppies. If you see a Cavapoo puppy for sale for $500 or less, you can probably assume they’re not a reputable breeder. The dogs are usually unclean, unhealthy, and taken away from their mothers too soon.
Other Factors That Influence the Purchase Price of a Cavapoo
There are plenty of factors that go into the cost of a Cavapoo. For one, females usually are priced higher because of their breeding potential. Another thing to keep in mind is the dog’s lineage. A dog’s pedigree will show its ancestors and if any of them were champions.
Another crucial aspect is the dog’s generation. Have you seen things like “F1” or “F1b” attached to the Cavapoo puppy descriptions? An F1 Cavapoo means “First Generation Cavapoo.” This is the initial cross, so one parent would be a purebred Cavalier King Charles and the other a purebred Poodle.
When it comes to generations, the F1b generation is often the one with the highest price tag. The issue associated with an F1 Cavapoo is they might have various genetic or health issues related to either parent. An F1b, which involves a Cavapoo as one of the parents, should experience less of these health issues. Puppies from later generations have stronger genes and fewer health issues.
Cost of Vaccination and Other Medical Expenses for a Cavapoo
The cost of vaccines will depend on which vaccines you get for your dog. Vaccine dosage is based on weight, so all Cavapoos will likely receive the same dosage. Puppies must receive core vaccinations called canine parvovirus, distemper, canine hepatitis, and rabies. Bordatella and Lyme vaccinations may be required due to the dog’s possible risk of exposure. In total, you can expect to spend around $100 and $350 in the first year. After that, most vaccine upkeep costs between $80 and $250.
Cost of Food and Supplies for a Cavapoo
Puppies will require a special diet. They start getting solid food at around four weeks old, and most are weaned from their mother’s milk at about six weeks old. It’s a good idea to moisten your puppy’s dry food to ensure they’re receiving proper hydration.
Immediate supplies you will need to purchase are bowls, bedding, a crate, a collar, a leash, and an identity tag. Also, you will want to buy toys for your dog to play with. Beyond that, you should expect to purchase grooming supplies, such as brushes, shampoo, nail clippers, and a toothbrush.
How Much Does It Cost to Insure a Cavapoo?
The cost of insurance has a few determining factors. The dog’s age, pedigree, and location are a few. Also, the Cavapoo breed can suffer from some specific hereditary health issues. Below are some medical conditions to be aware of:
- Distichiasis
- Progressive retinal atrophy
- Entropion
- Hip dysplasia
- Luxating patella
You can expect to spend anywhere between $20 to $60 per month on an insurance plan for your dog.
How Much Does It Cost to Train a Cavapoo?
Training should begin as soon as possible! The cost will highly depend upon where you live. You might spend a little less if you choose a commercial company, such as Petco. A private trainer might end up costing more but could be more beneficial for your specific situation.
