Oregon is home to a multitude of ice skating rinks. Discover 7 of the largest ice skating rinks in Oregon this winter that are open for public ice skating.  The first two of the listed ice skating rinks are specifically noted as having NHL-sized ice skating rinks. NHL Sized ice rinks are usually 200 feet long, and 85 feet wide. There are a few other ice skating rinks on the list that are used for public skating, and have their own highlights and charms.

When looking for a location to ice skate be conscious of the overall rink costs, whether they have skates for rent, if it is an indoor or outdoor skating rink, and what total services they provide so you can have the best ice skating experience. Some ice rinks feature artificial ice, whereas others have real ice. Whether the ice rinks are seasonal or open year around will also need to be considered when planning your visit.

1 The Pavilion (Bend, OR)  – Outdoor Ice Rink (Seasonal)

The Pavilion located in Bend, Oregon 2023-24 ice season runs from October 28, 2023 to early April 2024. It features an NHL size ice sheet and hosts league hockey curling, skate lessons, and open skating to the public. (Non-ice season is April thru the beginning of October). This covered multi-sport facility features the largest public ice rink in the region. Skate assists and helmets are available to borrow. Central Oregon Daily News even did an article exploring the beginning of the ice season and explained the building process of the ice portion of the rink.

2 Sherwood Ice Arena (Sherwood, OR) – Indoor Ice Rink (Year Around)

4 The Winterhawks Skating Center (Beaverton, OR) – Indoor Ice Rink

The Winterhawks Skating Center located in Beaverton, OR is a premiere ice skating and hockey facility. Skate rental is free with the cost of admission and the location offers “Learn to Skate” classes as do many other ice skating locations on this list. This historic location even has a beautiful wood-beam ceiling. With a long history, Winterhawks Skating Center has been in operation since 1965. Also, this arena is the official practice and development facility for the Portland Winterhawks of the Western Hockey League. Make sure to check the free skate schedules before planning your trip.

The ice rink you visit takes time and focus to build correctly.

5 The North Bend Ice Rink (City of North Bend, OR) – Tent Enclosed Ice Rink (Seasonal)

The North Bend Ice Rink is a unique 3,250 sq. ft. synthetic ice skating rink enclosed in a 5,000 sq. ft. event tent.  The ecological rink uses Xtraice synthetic ice. When it began to operate in 2022 North Bend sported its 12-year manufacturer’s warranty and 15-year lifespan. Synthetic ice has a better “gliding degree” and good grip. (If you choose to skate at this location and with knowledge that this rink is using a synthetic skating surface be watchful of your blades. This type of surface will dull the skate blade more than conventional ice. Your ice skates may require extra sharpening.) This ice rink even offers four polar bears to push around to help with balance to assist young, less skilled skaters.

6 The Bill Collier Ice Arena (Klamath Falls, OR) – Outdoor Ice Rink (Seasonal)

The Bill Collier Ice Arena located in Klamath Falls, OR is home to many ice sports and winter-time activities. This is a popular spot for residents and visitors alike in the Klamath Basin. The boards (the wall of a skating rink) are up if you want to do something a little different. They have Bumper Cars on Ice that has been recently added. A plus for those of us that skating is a challenge! Skating seals and skate helpers are available if a little different balance help is needed.

7 The RRR Rink (Medford, OR) – Indoor Ice Rink (Year Around)

The RRR Rink located in Medford, OR is skate center that offers year around “free skate” time on a consistent scheduled basis. This full-sized ice arena offers private lessons, Learn-to-Skate classes and has a pro-shop so your skates will never go dull. It has coaches on staff, and is also home to the South Oregon Figure Skating Club. Make sure to check the calendar to see what is on the event schedule before visiting this family focused ice skating location.
