The crisp winter air signals time for hot chocolate, the holiday season, and ice skating. Even though it’s one of the hardest things to do, ice skating is always a family favorite and a great date activity. The skating rink is also one of the few places you can go and nobody will judge you because most people are at roughly the same skating level. One of the nicest places to skate is Washington. If you live in Washington or plan on visiting, you should add these ice skating rinks to your list of things you might want to do.

Moses Lake Ice Rink

If you’re looking for a romantic getaway, Moses Lake is the perfect place to go. This rink is about a three-hour drive from Seattle but is situated right along a wonderful lake. The ice rink is covered but the sides are still exposed. This allows you to stay dry from potential rain. You’ll still feel the cold air and add to the amazing feeling of skating. Moses Lake is the size of a standard ice rink, as they allow for adult leagues to take place at this rink. The ability to skate on a regulation-sized rink, outdoors, and be protected from potential rain makes Moses Lake the perfect place to visit.

While some people like the ability to skate outdoors, others prefer indoors. The Kraken Community Iceplex is the ideal place to go if you want somewhere that’s safe and indoors. This is where the Seattle Kraken, the newest NHL team, practices. You can’t skate here while the team is practicing, but when they aren’t, the rink is open for business. In addition to the rink, this building offers a grill eat at when you’re finished with a day of skating. There’s also a Starbucks inside if you bring your kids but don’t want to skate yourself.

Winthrop Ice Rink

What if you could combine the outdoors part of Moses Lake Ice Rink and the ability to be indoors the Kraken Community Iceplex provides? You’d get the Winthrop Ice Rink. This Washington mountain ice rink is about a three-and-a-half-hour drive form Seattle. It’s smart if you’re making a weekend trip out of it. When you get here, the NHL-sized rink overlooks the North Gardner Mountain, one of the tallest in Washington. Unlike parts of Washington, Winthrop is known for snow, not rain. If you’re skating, you’re probably going to feel snow falling peacefully onto your head. If you have your family with you and you’d prefer to watch from the warmth, there’s a viewing area that provides heat. Either way, you’ll make tons of memories at this wonderful ice rink.

Lynnwood Ice Center

Another great indoor option for those who don’t want to have to deal with the unpredictable elements of Washington is the Lynnwood Ice Center. This rink is another NHL sized rink where those of all levels can practice their skills and enjoy the comfort of skating indoors. This rink is also huge on giving lessons and letting beginners try out skating. You won’t have to drive too far from Seattle, as Lynnwood is a nice suburb.

If you want to change up the path you skate, the Numerica Skate Ribbon is a wonderful option for you. This trail is located in the Spokane Riverfront Park, making it ideal and easy for anyone to get to. Instead of a normal rink, this trail is 650 feet long and takes you next to different lights and holiday-themed displays. If you’re a person who isn’t interested in skating, there are tons of places to get hot chocolate. You can also find fire pits to sit next to to keep warm. This Washington ice rink is a great place to take a date, thanks to the great visuals and places to go right next to it after you’re finished up.
