These workers have decided to forgo the high cost of living in some Northern cities to transition to roomier housing and warmer winters. And this is making some of the fastest-growing towns in Georgia explode in population.

Atlanta has seen a large chunk of new residents as the city establishes itself as a major metropolitan destination with cultural distinction in the U.S. It has become the “Hollywood of the South” in recent years, with a growing number of film productions choosing it as a set location.

The city is now a “boomtown” due to new businesses and investments fueling expansion.

Union City is in Fulton County, about 17 miles from Atlanta. It is densely suburban and has many parks and outdoor activities. It is considered a suburb of Atlanta, about a 23-minute drive from the city.

Residents enjoy Saturdays in the Alvarado Historic District, where they can find affordable and culturally diverse foods. Additionally, Dry Creek Cottage and Gardens offers a historic tour of the grounds, and Alameda Creek Regional Trail is great for bike riding.

The city gained a 10% increase in residents in the past few years, currently holding about 60,000. It is in DeKalb County, near Lithonia.

Locals enjoy trips to Stone Mountain Park or Arabia Mountain. South Fulton is also known for its famous shopping mall, the Mall at Stonecrest, which showcases over 120 retail outlets, restaurants, and entertainment venues. The Seaquest Stonecrest aquarium features animal exhibits and hands-on activities like feeding live sharks, stingrays, birds, and tropical animals.

Warner Robins

Warner Robins is home to the Robins Air Force Base, which has grown its population over the past few years at nearly 8%.

The city is located in Houston and Peach counties. It is approximately 20 miles south of Macon and 120 south of Atlanta. For those who love a little red, white, and blue in their city, this town is known as the “Home of Planes, Trains, and Heroes.”

This All-American town has the Museum of Aviation and the Southeast Regional Little League headquarters. According to Explore Georgia, it was the “Official Best Family Fun Destination in Georgia” for 2019.

Family-centered activities include the National Historic Site, the E.L. Greenway Train Depot, the Red Caboose, Mildred’s Country Store, the Elberta Train Depot, and the WWII Museum.

In short, there is no shortage of things to do in Warner Robbins. And while it may not lay within driving distance to Atlanta, it’s been making its fun around town.
