There are flowers that hold a lot of meaning. One could say roses are a representation of love and passion. Other flowers such as daffodils are a symbol of new beginnings. Life is full of challenges that cause us to change, grow, and become better versions of ourselves. Whether you’re looking for the perfect flower for a loved one or you want a bouquet for yourself, these are flowers that represent growth.
1. Allium
When looking at allium, you may not be able to tell it’s related to onions! That being said, this is not an edible flower. These clustered flowers typically grow in a deep shade of purple. There are cultures in the West that use Allium to keep bad spirits away.
Others believe it represents growth and strength to anyone who is in possession of one of these blooms!
2. Goldenrod
The bright yellow coloration of a goldenrod bloom will surely brighten up your day. These dense flowers have been around for centuries. Many cultures traditionally use the dense body of goldenrod blooms for powerful healing.
While some use it in salads, others combine goldenrod with other herbs to make tea. It’s a symbol of joy, good luck, growth, and a bright future.
3. Gladiolus
It’s hard to beat the evident beauty of Gladiolus blooms. These flowers bloom and vertical clusters in shades of yellow, purple, pink, and red. Some cultures combine the petals with warm goat milk for medicinal benefits.Â
It’s also used topically to help heal wounds and rashes. This flower represents growth, endurance, and the ability to take on anything that comes your way.
4. Horny Goat Weed
While the name may not paint the best picture, horny goat weed is a beautiful plant. The name comes from the flower’s ability to excite male goats! The flowers are quite small and dangle from thick stems.Â
There are several colors that grow naturally and they thrive in the shade. Strength, fertility, growth, and persistence are just a few of the things this bloom represents.
5. Echinacea
One of the most easily recognizable flowers is the echinacea, which many people call coneflowers. You can find them all over the United States because they’re incredibly easy to grow. These blooms are common in medicine due to their healing qualities.Â
In addition to representing healing, the echinacea flower symbolizes strength, growth, and new beginnings.
6. Amsonia
Amsonia is a genus of flowers with a unique appearance, nearly replicating the likes of starfish! With five thin petals, these blue blooms represent growth. Many associate this flower with hard work, strength, perseverance, and dedication towards one’s hopes and dreams.Â
7. Potentilla
If you’re looking for a dainty flower with a simple appearance, consider the Potentilla. These gorgeous blooms come in pink, white, red, and yellow. They are distant relatives of roses, making them represent a lot more than growth.Â
The Romans believed Potentilla to be a healing plant that promoted stress relief and a sense of calm.Â
8. Valerian
The valerian is a great representation of growth. These blooms are also symbols of healing. They come in a variety of shades including pink, white, and lavender. While they look beautiful, the delicate aroma of Valeriana is just as lovely.Â
Because this flower grows in large clusters, you can make a large bouquet out of just a few clippings.
9. Lotus
An aquatic flower that represents growth is the lotus. The meaning of this flower can change from one culture to another. For example, Buddhists believe that lotus are symbols of spiritual growth.
These flowers push their way through thick, muddy water to the surface before they bloom. It just shows that even nature has to go through rough times before serving its purpose.
10. Sunflower
Not only is a sunflower symbol of the ability to grow, but these towering flowers bring cheer with their bright colors. They turn their head to find the sun throughout the day, always looking for the light.
This can be a metaphor to remind us about the power of finding joy in the mundane and to always look on the bright side.
11. Butterfly Bush
You can find the butterfly bush in many places including North America and Africa. While technically a shrub, there are small clusters of flowers that bloom for nearly 1/3 of the year. Because these flowers can easily attract New Life, they are thought to represent girls and change.
12. Morning Glory
Another flower that represents growth is the morning glory. These flowers open up during the early morning hours and will close throughout the day. They also have the ability to climb, never meeting a challenge in their environment that they can’t overcome.
13. Zinnia
This bloom comes in a variety of colors. It is a great representation of growth and change. These are incredibly hardy plants and attract butterflies, bees, and other pollinators.
14. Cherry Blossom
Cherry blossoms are stunning flowers that grow in clusters. They’re typically a light shade of pink and hold a lot of meaning in the country of Japan. While they represent growth, cherry blossoms are also a symbol of transient beings.
These flowers have a short blooming time before they fall to the ground. This symbolizes quick realization and growth in life’s changing seasons.Â
